Daisy Florence or Violet

Hi All,

Please hit me with thoughts on these names.
I really like nature names and these seem to be the current favourites. I know Daisy and Florence are both popular but it doesn't bother me too much. I like Violet but tend to say it with 2 syllables when it should really be 3 and that ruins it slightly.

Love Daisy and Violet. Maybe Viola if you want to pronounce that 'o'? I automatically say violet as 2 syllable too

Clownfish123 · 27/03/2019 23:03

Thanks adeo. I'm not so keen on Viola as it doesn't remind me of the flower but it is a pretty name.

Florence & Violet are gorgeous. I say Violet with three syllables & I think it's nicer that way. I'm less keen on Daisy as I find it a bit sweet & twee, but it is a pretty name.

BloominSloe · 27/03/2019 23:17

Love Florence & Violet. I sat Violet with 2 syllabubs too I think. Vi-let rather than Vi-I-let. I don't dislike Daisy but do feel it's a bit wet.
Viola is a flower as well. They're very pretty, like tiny pansies.

stanski · 27/03/2019 23:18

Daisy!!!

DixieLandReject · 27/03/2019 23:19

Florence is my fave then Violet then Daisy last. Daisy, although pretty, reminds me of a friendly black and white milking cow.

KitNCaboodle · 27/03/2019 23:21

All beautiful names (helpful!)
I too say Vi-let

PrettyAmazingGrace · 27/03/2019 23:23

Violet, definitely. I think it's slightly less popular too, although all of these are very popular now. I had all 3 on my girl-list when my daughter was born. She's now in school with all of these girls, whose names I thought only I liked!

Shadow1234 · 27/03/2019 23:24

Florence is lovely.

mrsstephens89 · 27/03/2019 23:37

Definitely Violet.
Florence is a bit ‘faddy’ now
Daisy is ok but it’s also a bit childlike to me

OldAndWornOut · 27/03/2019 23:38

I like Florence.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 27/03/2019 23:42

Definitely Florence.

Pemba · 28/03/2019 02:32

Daisy is sweet. Perhaps a bit little-girly, but the best of the bunch.

Florence is popular now, but I just find it very stuffy.
Dislike the English pronunciation of Violet - sounds like 'vile' or 'violent'. The French Violette is pretty. ('vee-oh-let' I think).

Seahorseshoe · 28/03/2019 02:59

I love all three.

Calixtine · 28/03/2019 03:03

All pretty. Violet is my fave, followed by Daisy and then Florence, but it’s a close one.

mondler · 28/03/2019 05:10

I love all 3 - sorry! If you like flower names there is always Rose or Jasmine?

Peachbubble · 28/03/2019 05:31

Violet, with Daisy a close second

SoftBlocks · 28/03/2019 05:39

Florence. I think flower names sound lovely but I’m not sure about them on adult women.

AwkwardSquad · 28/03/2019 05:59

Florence, with Viola as the middle name? Scans nicely and has some presence. Plus options for shortened versions so she can play around with it when she’s older.

Clownfish123 · 28/03/2019 07:45

Thanks for all your helpful responses.
Out of interest do you pronounce the 't" in Violet? I don't tend to. I wouldn't in Harriet either. I would in Katie, so I think it's t's at the end of words that I tend to drop and that's probably the same for most people around here (South East England)
It spoils it a bit. I really want to love Violet! It fits the bill as being a lovely nature name that isn't too cutesy and a classic and not overly popular but the pronunciation is putting me off a bit.
To the poster that suggested Jasmine and Rose. I love Jasmine but I always imagine a dark haired, olive skinned girl, possibly because of princess Jasmine! My dd (if she is a dd) will almost certainly be blonde.
Rose is only one syllable and we have a one syllable surname so I'm trying to avoid that.
My DH loves Florence the most. It's his favourite name and I think I'm leaning towards Daisy, but I would be happy with any of them.
Keep the opinions coming it's helpful Smile
If any if you have children with these names and can say if they like them that would be helpful too.

Florence!

Jessabean · 28/03/2019 08:17

Sorry posted before I saw your message- I'm also from similar areas to you by sounds of it and also don't tend to say the T in Violet but just more of a 'ET' sound but I do t think in a way that it's that noticeable or unpleasant if that makes sense?

Jessabean · 28/03/2019 08:17

Don't*

chiarazuri · 28/03/2019 11:05
