Daisy Florence or Violet

Hi All,

Please hit me with thoughts on these names.
I really like nature names and these seem to be the current favourites. I know Daisy and Florence are both popular but it doesn't bother me too much. I like Violet but tend to say it with 2 syllables when it should really be 3 and that ruins it slightly.

Love em all... especially FlorenceSmile

BlueMerchant · 28/03/2019 11:14

Violet is lovely. Not keen on Florence. Daisy is nice for a baby but doesn't suit many (any) grown women.

sundowners · 28/03/2019 12:15

Florence sounds old fashioned but not in a nice way. Actually think despite its floral association it’s not very graceful.
Daisy love but too everywhere now.

Violet by far my favourite, it’s beautiful.

bobstersmum · 28/03/2019 12:26

Daisy 🌼!!

Barbarafromblackpool · 28/03/2019 12:28

Violet.

queenqueenqueen · 28/03/2019 12:40

I used to love Violet and wanted it for DD but my DH said "ooh no, sounds like Violent" and I know that's silly but I've gone off the name ever since.

I'm not keen on Florence and agree with PP it's abit "faddy" also not keen on the abbreviations of it which people do tend to do , siblings, friends etc. Flo? or Florrie? Don't like either.

Daisy is cute, I know others have said it's popular, I only know one Daisy maybe it's not too popular where we live, and I think it's a lovely name x

ReginaPhalange89 · 28/03/2019 15:31

Of the 3 I like Florence best. And like the shortening of Florrie or Flo.

I think Florence or Violet would age a lot better , I can picture them on younger children, teens or adults , but I can't say the same for Daisy I'm afraid ! It's a pretty name for a little tot but I just don't think it's too babyish for an adults name.

Violet in my accent (Scottish) would be said like v-eye-lit .

VoyageInTheDark · 28/03/2019 16:25

I love Florence. Daisy is also pretty

Violet is ok but makes me think of the word violent. I say it with 2 syllables too.

Clownfish123 · 28/03/2019 18:45

Florence seems to be the most popular. I can't decide whether I find it a bit frumpy and stuffy or whimsical and beautiful!
I love all the nicknames which is good especially Flori. I also love Flora.
Still love Daisy. I do worry about whether it suits an adult (my DH's main concern) but I think there will be so many adult Rosies, Lilys, Poppys and Daisys, they won't be considered cutesy anymore.

I say violet with 2.5 syllables. The o is very slightly there but not wholly.
Viola - why is the instrument vee-o- lah but the name is veye-o lah (it is isn’t it ? Suddenly not at all sure.)

Jessabean · 28/03/2019 20:57

Flora is lovely- know a very pretty Flora who is in her late 20's and works well as both child and adult with all same nn available as for Florence -if you find that a bit too frumpy would go Flora.

TatianaLarina · 28/03/2019 23:00

Violet - it’s beautiful. Florence is so frumpy.

I say Vi uh let.

Clownfish123 · 29/03/2019 09:28

I worry a bit about the 'spreads easily' and butter connotations with Flora.

OP posts:
redwoodmazza · 29/03/2019 09:36

I say 'vi-o-let' and think it's pretty.
I don't like 'vi-let' at all. Just wrong!

I also like 'Flora' but I tend to think of margarine these days...

pansydansy · 29/03/2019 09:41

I only like violet.

Jessi88 · 29/03/2019 09:47

I have a Violet and Florence is a front runner for DD2. If we don’t use Florence then we’ll use it or Flora as a middle name instead.

I pronounce Violet with 3 syllables. With my accent, the T is quite soft and sort of blends into the -et sound - If that makes sense? Lol. Lettie has naturally become her NN. She’s a bit too young to say whether she likes her name or not though, sorry lol.

Clownfish123 · 29/03/2019 10:14

Good to hear from a mum of a Violet Smile
Interesting that Lettie has becoming a natural nickname. I wasn't sure if that would come naturally. I really like Lettie but but not keen on Vi.

Daisy is my favourite. Not keen on Violet.

Jessi88 · 29/03/2019 10:24

@Clownfish123 My MIL started it. She isn’t a fan of Violet and will call her anything but her actual name. Lettie was the one that has stuck with all of us (or Ets)

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 03/04/2019 18:39

Violet is my favourite

Clownfish123 · 03/04/2019 19:29

If anyone is still reading, I have a DS Rory. Would Rory and Flori be confusing. It only just occurred to me!

several years ago DD went to school with a Florence, who went by Flo. Honestly I thought that sounded awful so for that alone I say no to Florence.

Daisy is ok, perfectly fine name, but has been a bit overused in the past decade.

Violet is lovely.

Bumblebeesmum · 03/04/2019 22:16

I think Daisy is a lovely name although I had a good school friend called Daisy who was really nice & super cool so it could be because of her

Another flower name I love is Dahlia

CapeDaisy5 · 03/04/2019 22:19

Daisy Florence go together better I think.

Jessabean · 04/04/2019 06:29

I think Flo is lovely - know a Flora who goes by Flo and really suits her/think is a lovely nickname and would go better with Rory than Florrie- nothing wrong and not that they don't go but a bit too much ee sounding when saying out loud probably- same a little with Rory and Daisy. Still really like Rory and Florence/Flo though - think you have similar taste to me as love both names!
