What do you think of Amélie? I love the nickname Mimi.

It's quite dated in France. The Amélies I know are at least a decade older than me. It's like calling your baby Leanne or Gemma. Same with Élodie. Funny they are becoming popular now in the U.K. Next it will be Coralie.

I really like it but it was v popular a few years ago so may date?

I never get the Amelie and popular/common comments. It's only number 73 in the UK so how's that classed as overly popular?

Nice name. I know a few Amelie’s shortened to Mi Mi and also a few Amelia’s shortened to Mi Mi too.

Also know a French family who have a Aimee, which when pronounced with a French accent sounds lovely/

I'll be using this for my baby due soon so I love it Smile I'm always so intrigued by people here saying it's super popular and done but I suppose it is very much dependent on where you're from; in I'm Australian and have never met one. I have heard of one or two through people and know it's not exceptionally unusual or anything but it's not in the top 100 names here (I'd actually be very interested to see where it does fall... if assume it's in the top 200). Thus far responses to the name have been incredibly positive so again, I think it must be perceived a bit differently in the UK than it is here. Use it if you love it! Mimi is cute but I'm hoping to get away with no nickname personally. If I can't get away with it I don't mind Amma/Ammy.

I love it and the nn Mimi

AuntieStella · 10/05/2019 07:36

It's OK - I just think it's a rather dull name.

Clownfish123 · 10/05/2019 08:33

I like this name, it's very pretty. I think people tend to say it's so popular due to all the Amelia's and Emilia's as well, plus it came out of nowhere so is quite faddy in the UK.
I wouldn't use it for that reason but for someone with French heritage it's perfect.

Sparklysunflower · 10/05/2019 08:41

Way overused along with Emily, Emilia, Amelia, Millie, Mimi etc I'm not keen.

DieselSucker · 10/05/2019 13:27

I've got a French friend called Amelie and I love this name with the French pronunciation. My aunt is called Amelia and I don't think it's that nice.

Boring and wet.

What about Alizee?
