Brutually honest feedback on Quentin please.

It’s a top contender for our newborn son but I don’t know if it’s too “out there”?

Similar to Tarquin or Peregrine, weak and wet. Not my cup of tea but ok if you move in those circles.

DramaAlpaca · 13/03/2019 20:54

I quite like it, it's old fashioned in a good way. I don't see it as 'weak & wet' at all.

CoffeeRunner · 13/03/2019 20:55

Absolutely horrendous.

I agree with a PP, it’s on a par with Peregrine.

Tarquin I would prefer!

Bookworm01 · 13/03/2019 20:56

Quentin Letts from the Daily Fail, is who comes to mind.

pixieloux · 13/03/2019 20:58

That’s the vibe I was worried it had and what has stopped me from committing to it. We love the name but it just doesn’t seem to fit ‘us’ as a family or gel with his elder sibling’s names. It’s between Quentin and Zachary

Minglemangle · 13/03/2019 21:00

Zachary is a lot nicer IMO. Lovely name

Jfw82 · 13/03/2019 21:08

Made me think of Quentin Blake. Could be really nice. Didn't have a negative reaction just an ooo different reaction

KindnessCrusader · 13/03/2019 21:12

I love it! I've never met a little Quentin.

Shadow1234 · 13/03/2019 21:20

Zachary is much nicer!

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 13/03/2019 21:22

I strongly dislike it but would keep my feelings to myself if I met one. Much prefer Zachary.

NerrSnerr · 13/03/2019 21:39

I like it, Quentin Blake came to mind for me.

Jenala · 13/03/2019 21:43

There's a Quentin at my DCs nursery and he's awesome. I think if I hadn't met him I'd have been someone to take the piss out of the name... but actually meeting a child with a certain name has made me see that it's fine, the name moulds to them not the other way round. If you like it then go for it.

pixieloux · 13/03/2019 22:01

@Jenala This is why I’m torn. I know the name won’t define him but I don’t want to give him a name that people will judge and take the piss out of when they first hear it. I guess it’s just a bit... posh? for us to use.

OP posts:
PCohle · 13/03/2019 22:07

I think it's a bit posh/wet too. Zachary is much nicer.

I think just about any name "moulds" to the child and you sort of become blind to the name and only think of the individual. Doesn't make it a good name though!

MrsBungle · 13/03/2019 22:09

Zachary is much better.

SherlockHolmes · 13/03/2019 22:12

It's vile and has lots of negative and pompous connotations.

Don't do it.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 13/03/2019 22:14

Eeew no.

missmouse101 · 13/03/2019 22:15

Hideous! I love the sound of Ptolemy though (pronounced Tol-uh-mee) but would never be brave enough to use it! Do you like Jasper?

SilviaSalmon · 13/03/2019 22:16

I think of the cross uncle from the Famous 5.

But I do kind of like it.

CoffeeRunner · 13/03/2019 22:19

Ooo, I’d Zachary is on the table go for that!

A zillion trillion times better than Quentin!

LovelyBranches · 13/03/2019 22:19

Quentin is too loaded. If you are very posh then it comes across in a condescending way, if you are working or middle class then it sounds like you belong to Mrs Bucket.

Quinn is more neutral.

hollyblue1 · 13/03/2019 22:22

I like it, love Quin but then I also love peregrine

mangolover · 13/03/2019 22:24

I love this!!

123Flopsy · 13/03/2019 22:25

Love Quentin!

123Flopsy · 13/03/2019 22:26

Reminds me of the lovely Quentin Blake. Or Quentin Tarantino. And Q is a cool initial.
