Chelsey or Chelsie?

Good evening!
So now DH and me are lingering between these two spellings, which we both love. We like Chelsey because it's kind of more mature and not that girly and cutesy. But the problem is, we feel like there's too many E's in this spelling, which sometimes really annoy us. And that leads us to our second choice: Chelsie. We love that how it ends in -ie, which will fit her as a little girl and a teenager for quite some time, and is still not that cutesy and childish when it comes to an adult.
So, that's basically our thought. What do you guys think? Which one should we go with? And why?
Thanks

Chelsea. Or maybe Kelsey.

Chelsey is better than Chelsie but not by much. Chelsie is on par with Chelsi, Chelsei, Chelsai in terms of sticking random vowels on the end.

lisamac28 · 07/03/2019 14:40

I prefer Chelsey please reconsider Chelsea

HighestMountains · 07/03/2019 14:49

Of those options I prefer the y ending but honestly think the most common spelling is the best!

I always associate the name with Hillary and Bill Clinton.

EveryoneFreeze · 07/03/2019 14:52

Chelsea

EveryoneFreeze · 07/03/2019 14:53

(Also I’m American and I don’t think those unusual spellings would be any more accepted there than here!)

MikeUniformMike · 07/03/2019 17:37

The name is normally spelt Chelsea. Have you considered Chelzi?

mbb1 · 07/03/2019 17:52

Both awful and super chavvy

SilverySurfer · 07/03/2019 20:03

If I met someone with either of those two spellings it would be easy to assume the parents were illiterate. Please don't do it.

Sessy19 · 07/03/2019 20:11

The name isn’t to my taste, but I’d consider the spelling Chelsey over all the other spellings. I think Chelsea is a gross spelling of the name!!

I haven’t read the whole thread because I was bored of the pretty petty refusal to respond to the actual OP. So mumsnet!!

There are two Es in every way you spell it 😉

KissingInTheRain · 07/03/2019 20:16

I agree with the consensus that Chelsea would be the best of a bad lot.

But do consider the other London-related possibilities that people have offered, to which I’ll add the suggestion of Mottingham.

And if you want the football connection, and to avoid any plaguey vowels, how about ‘Cooper’, spelt Qpr?

CloserIAm2Fine · 07/03/2019 20:20

Both Chelsey and Chelsie are cutesy and yoo-neeq spellings

Not a fan of the name at all but if you insist then please do your DD a favour and use Chelsea which is at least spelled correctly!

mrsk28 · 07/03/2019 20:35

I like Chelsey better out of the two and actually agree with you that an unusual spelling is nice

Bigearringsbigsmile · 07/03/2019 20:38

I'd spell it Charlotte

CoffeeRunner · 07/03/2019 20:42

I prefer Chelsie to Chelsey. Probably because I know one, so it seems more normal to me.

Both are incorrect spellings though.

Why on earth would anyone want to name their child after a currant bun? Beggars belief!

Unguent · 07/03/2019 21:13

It’s not an actual child, Presea, and posters are responding to a poster who specifically says she wants to avoid a name that’s ‘girlie’, ‘cutesy’ or ‘childish’, when either spelling of the name she’s chosen are exactly that. Also, she seems to have trouble counting the letter ‘e’.

KissingInTheRain · 07/03/2019 21:15

You all sound like chavvy dickheads. Who sneers over a child’s name? Very déclassé

Everyone. Lots of different names get laughed at, for lots of different reasons. It’s not any kid’s fault. They’re not being sneered at, the parents are. But I reckon you know that.

AfterSchoolWorry · 07/03/2019 21:21

It's just not a good name, no matter how you spell it.

It's so dated. Just an ordinary, unimaginative, commonplace name from 20-30 years ago.

Why?

GummyGoddess · 07/03/2019 21:36

None, I have a name that is definitely spelt one of two ways with one more common spelling. I have a bizarre third spelling and it is totally shit. Everyone misspells my name, even on work emails when my name is in the address.

Think Salli instead of Sally/Sallie.

It looks stupid and is a lifetime of irritation. I wish I had the guts to change it, but my DM will be upset and I don't want to do that to her.

PreseaCombatir · 07/03/2019 21:41

It’s not an actual child, Presea
There are actual children with these names though.

PreseaCombatir · 07/03/2019 21:41

Like a bunch of Katie Hopkins’

Bumblebeesmum · 07/03/2019 21:48

Really hideous name
I’m assuming you’re not in the U.K. so maybe it’s less awful elsewhere
I’m completely baffled by the spelling thing as both options have 2 E’s Confused

Bumblebeesmum · 07/03/2019 21:51

Presea your comment makes no sense - people sneering & thinking a name is chavvy might be unpleasant but it would make someone a snob surely?
I hate the word chav & I hate that a child’s name has such strong implications for how they are viewed & treated by society - but the fact is that whether you like it or dislike it, it’s going to happen & so understandable that a lot of parents don’t just think about names they like but also how their child might be treated in life.

Bumblebeesmum · 07/03/2019 21:53

I also never really understand people getting really angry at other people expressing negative opinions on a theoretical name on a name opinions thread on the Internet.
