Veronica?

What do you think of Veronica? And what middle names go well and sound classy and elegant? I was thinking of Veronica Faye or Veronica Jolie. But open to suggestions.

I am also wondering how this pairs with sister name Dahlia Laurenne? I need a name as equally feminine and strong. I dont like other D names (that I know of). I'm also not really hip to a lot of flower or nature names. Veronica is a plant but people dont really make that association at first so it came to mind as a winner with Dahlia. I dont like common flower names like Rose or Lily. I like Violette (spelled like this) but it's very popular so I'm kinda bleh. I like Ivy but dont think it works eith Dahlia. I'm open to suggestions but have already considered most the common flower and nature names on lists. I briefly considered Dianella but I think it sounds to close and I didnt love, love it.

Help :)

Veronica is awful. (Veronica Salt, Verucca associations). Don't do it.

Violette is nice. Or Violetta, Valentina, Vivianne. Even Valencia or Verona.

goldopals · 03/03/2019 05:16

I'm not a fan... I know of too many fictional characters

SAK1976 · 03/03/2019 05:21

Absolutely awful name.... don't do it to her

Myfoolishboatisleaning · 03/03/2019 05:28

Pretty ugly. What about Daphne?

crabb · 03/03/2019 05:44

Not nice. It’s my name. I’m 60, it’s too soon to recycle (and may never be worth recycling, it wasn’t that common to start with).

Susannach · 03/03/2019 07:49

Veronica is great! I’m surprised by these responses. I know a lovely one and I think it’s a good, strong, familiar name but hardly ever used. She gets called Vee/V for short which is nice too.

I prefer Faye from your middle name ideas. Jolie is a bit celeb.

Veronica June
Veronica Wren
Veronica Lucy
Veronica Ivy
Veronica Tess

BrizzleMint · 03/03/2019 07:51

Love it, the kindest person I've ever met is a Veronica. There are lots of lovely nicknames too.

chipshopElvis · 03/03/2019 07:54

I love the name Veronica, also surprised by the hate! It's classic and elegant.

JustAnotherMillennial · 03/03/2019 07:55

Not a fan, a name that belongs in the past.

Also I immediately think Veronica Mars...

villainousbroodmare · 03/03/2019 07:58

Kinda charmless to my ears, sorry, OP.

AuntMarch · 03/03/2019 08:02

I think Ivy goes fine

SeaweedDress · 03/03/2019 08:04

I’d class it with other religious names like Assumpta and Concepta.

ThursdayLastWeek · 03/03/2019 08:06

I think Veronica is a string classic name, and I like Ronnie as a NN

LostInTheColonies · 03/03/2019 08:19

Hebe (rhymes with Phoebe) is Greek but is also a genus of flowering plant. The plant name is botanically linked to Veronica... can't remember exactly how though!

IVflytrap · 03/03/2019 09:00

@ColeHawlins If OP can't have Veronica because of Verucca Salt, then she definitely can't have Violette - because of Violet Beauregard Wink

(Personally I think the Verucca Salt idea is a huge stretch, sorry)

OP, I like Veronica, and a lot more than Violette. Veronica is a bit different to all the other popular girls names that are around at the moment. It probably helps that I know a lovely Italian Veronica, who is in her 20s. Quite surprised at the number of negative comments, particularly as I remember a thread where everyone loved the name Vanessa for a baby, which seems similar to me (although Veronica is nicer!)

I would go with Veronica if you love it. It's established and well known but currently unusual.

ColeHawlins · 03/03/2019 09:00

Might be my age Smile

IVflytrap · 03/03/2019 09:06
Grin

Middle name ideas for you OP:

Veronica Joy
Veronica Claire
Veronica Elise
Veronica Cecily
Veronica Wren
Veronica Merryn
Veronica Tamsin
Veronica Anaïs

I like Faye. Jolie is OK, although does make me think of Angelina Jolie a bit.

SeaweedDress · 03/03/2019 09:15

Veronica isn’t at all like Vanessa, other than the first and last letters!

Veronica, as a pp has said, is dated, but not dated enough to be revived — women in their 50s and 60s are Veronicas. It’s also strongly Catholic — ‘St’ Veronica who wiped the face of Jesus etc etc — and the kind of name girls of the generation before mine took as confirmation names. I was also taught by several Sister Veronicas in the 1970s and 80s.

It’s a Brenda, Rita, Barbara type of name.

beanaseireann · 03/03/2019 09:16

Awful. Sorry

noitsachicken · 03/03/2019 09:19

Bryony?

borntobequiet · 03/03/2019 09:22

Nice name, due a revival. Agree strong Catholic connotations. Veronica Mary? Anne? Something short.

Peachbubble · 03/03/2019 09:35

I quite like it. Wasn't there a song called this by Elvis Costello?

Ellapaella · 03/03/2019 09:39

Not a nice name in itself but could maybe be shortened to 'Ronnie' which is marginally better.

spicygirl26 · 03/03/2019 09:47

I think it's a very strong name. It's not my cup of tea (I like quite 'girly', delicate names) but I don't think it's an awful name.

Can you imagine yourself saying it 49billion times a day for the next 18 years?

Quintella · 03/03/2019 10:02

Well I quite like Veronica. Brings to mind the Veronica Lake and the Golden Age of Hollywood.

Would be worried about Ronnie being a possible nickname however.
