I don't love any boy names

Expecting a little boy in 4 months, only trouble is there are no names that I love. I like Charlie, Jacob and Jack but can't use these, but I also don't love them. I don't want a name that's everywhere and is really common but I feel like all the names I like are, but again, I just don't love them? Help!

Maybe stop thinking of a name for a baby boy, and instead imagine your future handsome 25 year old son. He is a doctor/engineer/actor/farmer/dancer/marine biologist/linguist/artist/whatever. What is his name?

Edward?
Jonathan?
Simon?
Oscar?
Luke?
Charles?

Hi OP

Theo
Elijah
Max
Noah

I'm expecting a boy in May, my favourites are Harry, Finley & Sam. My nephews are Jacob and Theo both lovely names Smile I also like Reuben and Oliver but I don't LOVE them.

Good luck! Boys names are so hard I've found, I'm just going to decide what he looks like when I see his little face 💙

NotReve · 03/03/2019 01:08

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm so picky. I do love Elliot. I adore Miles but it doesn't go with our surname as it also starts with an M and ends with an S so it would be a bit of a mouthful. I like Eli but don't really like Elijah/Elias. I really like Louis but DH, his family and my mum all says it's pronounced Lewis and I posted about calling him Louie on here and people weren't keen as it looked misspelt. Going round in circles! So far I think Elliot is top of my list.

Elliot was my favourite name for years - my partner didn't like it :( we went with Eli in the end which I adore. He's pretty adorable too fittingly Grin

Msgiggles30 · 03/03/2019 12:52

My pet hate is names that are mispelt to be different however oddly I think Louie is fine. Maybe as I've taught 2 or 3 with this spelling and always seemed plausible and looka nice. If its the only one you love it id go for it. Its not like your saddling them with Rhyleey or Ay-vah Grin

Msgiggles30 · 03/03/2019 12:55

Also feel your pain on boys names. The ones I like are taken and the only other one I really like is Joseph but I know its plain for some tastes. Elliot is nice :)

123Flopsy · 03/03/2019 13:38

I really like Louis but DH, his family and my mum all says it's pronounced Lewis and I posted about calling him Louie on here

I think Louie has become the more popular spelling in the UK.

Outside France Louis is indeed often pronounced Lou-is. The city of St Louis for example. In Germany, Scandinavia etc Louis is also pronounced Lou-is.

Louie makes the pronunciation very clear.

GreenTulips · 03/03/2019 13:44

Louie is a Irish name although the french say it as Lewis

MrsJayy · 04/03/2019 15:30

You can say Louie even though you spell Louis i think that is how the royals spell it . I love Eli my friends grandson is Eli and it really is a great name

MollyHuaCha · 04/03/2019 16:30

Louie looks so wrong to me. It's written Louis and pronounced Lou-ee.

mumofthehs · 04/03/2019 20:15

Louis is definitely not pronounced Lewis - completely different name.
My son was nearly a Louis but I used it as his middle name instead. I guess with Prince Louis the name will become more popular and the pronunciation will be
More known.

BlueMerchant · 04/03/2019 20:19

Agree Louis is different to Lewis. I like Louis.
Random names I like
Isaac
Adam
Oliver
Owen
Sonny
Isiah
Seth

TatianaLarina · 04/03/2019 20:35

Louis is a million times nicer than Elliot.

Your husband and family are just wrong about the pronunciation. Prince William’s son isn’t called Lewis is he?

WrinklyFingers · 05/03/2019 10:25

I think Eli would be nice, no need for a longer name imo.

123Flopsy · 05/03/2019 12:08

I prefer Elliott. Good strong name.

Eli or Elli sounds girly so I wouldn't shorten Elliott.

123Flopsy · 05/03/2019 12:11

And Louis is often pronounced Lou-is outside of France. I know an American Louis as well as a Dutch one and both pronounce it Lou-is. As is the city of St Louis in Missouri!

I wouldn't be surprised if the Louie spelling continued to rise in popularity in the Uk.

birchwoods · 05/03/2019 13:25

If you like Miles and Eli how about Milo?

TatianaLarina · 05/03/2019 22:20

Louis is Loo ee in Dutch, altho a few pronounce it sounding the S.
In German it is Loo ees - same as Dutch/French but they sound the s.

Neither sound at all like Lewis which is a different name altogether.

123Flopsy · 05/03/2019 23:05

In German it's Lou-is and not Lo-ees. The second syllable is a short is.

TatianaLarina · 06/03/2019 09:15

I said Loo ees. The second syllable is short but it’s still ’ees’ not ‘is’ as in Lewis. Much nearer the true French pronunciation.

Chocmallows · 06/03/2019 09:22

Elliot Louis
Louis as middle name pronounced Lou-ee
