Yes, I know.

Yes, I still love it.

Question - would you put Evangeline on the birth certificate? Thinking to have it on the birth certificate as an option for a more 'formal' name in the future. But wouldn't call her that in 'real life.' So, is there any point?

Middle name is Rose.

Thank you for your thoughts!

No I'd just Evie on her BC. Its a name its own right. If I was going to suggest alonger name I'd say Evelyn rather than Evangeline. Unless you're upper upper class Evangeline is just trying to be something you're not, sorry

SweetAsSpice · 21/02/2019 19:30

Interesting. Appreciate your thoughts!

I prefer the simpler Eve or Eva rather than Evangeline which is a bit frou-frou for me.

daisypond · 21/02/2019 19:46

I prefer Evelyn to Evangeline, too. I think Evie is too babyish - sorry - for a full name. Fine for a small child, not an adult/teenager. Probably even a primary school age child will have outgrown it. Eve or Eva would be better too if you don't like Evelyn or Evangeline. I know a couple of teenagers who were called Evie and both now insist on other versions of their names. One is doing it officially and having her name changed.

SweetAsSpice · 21/02/2019 19:51

Thank you for your thoughts! Just not loving Evelyn...

I'm with you, OP. Evangeline Rose on the bc & Evie for everyday. Just beautiful. Or if Evangeline is too long, Eva Rose is a nice alternative.

daisypond · 21/02/2019 19:57

Genevieve? Evelina?

thisgirlcanmoveon · 21/02/2019 20:00

DD aged 18 is called Evie officially on her birth certificate her name is Eva as I worried it might be too babyish. She wishes Evie was on her birth certificate and moans that she has a lengthened short name. She's at uni studying maths and physics so having Evie as her name hasn't hindered her.

Threenager · 21/02/2019 20:09

I looove Evangeline! Do it!

SweetAsSpice · 21/02/2019 20:10

Thank you DramaAlpaca it looks 'right' written down.

Thank you for suggestions daisypond hadn't thought of Evelina.

Thank you for your insight thisgirlcanmoveon that's what I'm also imagining in the future if we did go for Evangeline. Also, go Evie! Smile

I would put something longer on the BC. One of my children has a name like this and even though we never use the full version it's nice to give them the option (and they can even choose another nn if they like as it's a 3 syllable name with two possible shortenings).

SweetAsSpice · 21/02/2019 20:36

Thank you PeppermintCactus it might be good to have the option.

How odd

The last thread Evangeline came up people were unanimous it was lovely

Go for it OP

E20mom · 21/02/2019 20:41

Evanna or Evangelia maybe?

aliceelizaloves · 21/02/2019 20:46

I love Evangeline. Go for that.

BlueMerchant · 21/02/2019 20:48

Evangeline Rose is nice
Genevieve Rose is beautiful
I would prefer the more formal name on the birth certificate.

MeYouWye · 21/02/2019 20:50

It is not a bad name but there are so many Evies out there, as long as you don't mind your child being one of about 4 in their their class... Are you sure there are no other names you like?

gherkinpickle · 21/02/2019 20:58

Just go for Evie. It's a great name in its own right!

Otherwise she'll spend her whole life correcting people "it's Evie", or "its Evangeline"

I have a shortened name and I wish it was just my legal name. Instead all my important documents read a name that I never use.

SweetAsSpice · 21/02/2019 21:14

Thank you all for your thoughts and suggestions so far.

gherkinpickle as you and a pp have said about having a different name to the 'legal' one -that's what I really don't want for her, especially if we won't ever be calling her Evangeline.

Very torn!

Evangelina is a really lovely name, as is Evie. Putting the long name on her BC gives her the choice of deciding what to be known as when she's older.

Accountant222 · 21/02/2019 21:51

Eve is my nieces name, I hated it when she was born....... but then she sort of grew into it. She's 18 now and it's a grown up name and really suits her, I love her to bits

Divgirl2 · 21/02/2019 21:53

I love Evangeline - classic and underused.

Sophronia · 21/02/2019 22:47

Evangeline on the birth certificate.

MsTSwift · 21/02/2019 22:52

Whatever long name you give she will be yet another eve /Evie. Seriously don’t - that name is done to death. At one stage a third of the girls in dds class were named a variant of eve. It’s like Sarah was in the late 70s

Antonin · 22/02/2019 01:35

I don’t regard Evie as a proper name as it has been given as. “full name” as opposed to a nn only very recently. It’s quite ok , if rather over popular, as a nn but do give your daughter a name she can grow into.
