Yes, I know.

Yes, I still love it.

Question - would you put Evangeline on the birth certificate? Thinking to have it on the birth certificate as an option for a more 'formal' name in the future. But wouldn't call her that in 'real life.' So, is there any point?

Middle name is Rose.

Thank you for your thoughts!

Prefer Evie to Evangeline. But I'd put Eve or Eva on the bc.

MsTSwift · 22/02/2019 06:45

She will be Evie M or whatever your surname is. My name is a run of the mill one too so purposely avoided those for my dds

RuthW · 22/02/2019 07:08

Definitely a long name on bc. Evangeline is lovely.

MercyBodle · 22/02/2019 07:33

While personally I would prefer Eva on the bc, with nn Evie for everyday use, it really doesn't matter if that's not your style. There is nothing wrong with Evie Rose as the full name if that's what you prefer. I'm not a big fan of Evangeline but it's okay - but it does feel like an awfully big name if you don't intend ever to use it. In that case I would stick with Evie on bc.

lpchill · 22/02/2019 07:45

My daughter on her birth certificate is Evelyn but we call her Evie. I love the fact that she will have a choice and also a professional name

SweetAsSpice · 22/02/2019 08:49

Thank you again for all for your responses so far. I swing from thinking it'll be good to have the 'professional' option/one she can grow into if she chooses, to, as MercyBodle has said, an awfully big name if we don't ever intend to use it. Lots of food for thought.

I actually hate the name Evangeline. It sounds like vagina to me.
Not even remotely ‘upper class’ - whoever suggested that.

Evie is in the top 5 most overused names of our time. It’s the new Jackie. In 20 years it will really date.

123Flopsy · 22/02/2019 10:01

I don't like Evangeline as it reminds me of evangelicals (and vaginas).

Eva is much nicer.

Welshgirl2019 · 22/02/2019 10:01

I love the name. I just like Evie as it is. I have a very common name, a few years back it was number one and has always been in the top 5 to 10 and it has never caused me any problems with being too common. Though I have a popular name it's never lovely so don't worry about it.

NutElla5x · 22/02/2019 10:14

Evie is so babyish and twee. I'd go for the much nicer name Eva,and then you and others could always use the pet name Evie if you really wanted to.

SweetAsSpice · 22/02/2019 11:18

Vagina?! Shock had never thought of that!

Much prefer Eva nn Evie to Evangeline. I just hear Vange. I like Evelyn or Everly, both nice to get Evie.
I do think Evie could do with a more formal name on bc.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 22/02/2019 15:39

I have an Evie! She is 15 and there was only one other Evie in her whole primary school, so maybe it is more popular now?? There were a lot of Eve's and Eva's though.

I'm glad someone else said the Evangeline/vagina thing, because that was my immediate thought Blush

Narya · 22/02/2019 15:43

I would assume Evelyn rather than Evangeline if I met a one of the eleventy billion round here little Evie.

^ same here Blush

Confused I would never make a link between Evangeline and vagina. And my mind can be quite childish at times.
twilightcafe · 22/02/2019 15:59

I love Evelyn. Your DD can shorten it to Eva or Evie.

Evie is very popular where I live - every third girl where I live has that name.

The Evangeline link crossed my mind, too. Sorry!

MsTSwift · 22/02/2019 17:42

At one stage 4 of dd1s friends were called this name and confusion reigned. One to avoid imo

stellarfox · 22/02/2019 17:47

I feel like there are so many Evies. I really like Evelina but the potential nickname Evie puts me off! What about Edie? It's a bit more unusual!

cupofteaplease · 22/02/2019 17:49

My 13 year old is called Evie because I adored the name. I wish I’d known how many of them there are!! I almost put Evangeline in her birth certificate (I was a huge House of Elliott fan Smile) but I chose just Evie, and to this day my dd wishes her full name was Evangeline.

Enidblyton1 · 22/02/2019 18:02

Seems silly to use Evangeline on a bc if you’re never going to use it and don’t particularly like it!
But Evie really has been done to death OP. Genevieve is a brilliant name, though I’d go with Vivi as a shortening, rather than Evie.

Enidblyton1 · 22/02/2019 18:03

To the op who suggests Edie is less popular, I now know 4 Edies under the age of 3. In this area it’s becoming just as popular as Evie!

My Son is Gabriel on his birth certificate, but we never called him that! He goes by a rarely (in England) used shortening. I don't think I have ever ever called him Gabriel and he's almost 2! Im still glad he has the option of the longer name though! I love Evangeline.

TheCraicDealer · 22/02/2019 18:07

My parents and family gave me a shortened nickname-name but I have the longer version on my bc and I'm so glad they did. It gave me the flexibility to easily switch to what I felt was a more grown-up, professional sounding name when I started working.

I think as well that when you go for a name which is so popular (no shade! George is no.1 on our boys list!) you're better giving them as many options as possible so that they can avoid being one of many Eve/Evie's if they so wish. There may be more than a few variants on Eve/Eva/Ava at school, uni or work, but there aren't going to be anywhere near as many Evangelines or Evelinas knocking about.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 22/02/2019 18:09

You could also have Evlambia or Evlampia.
