Amelise or Ameline and middle name choice - please help ;)

I'm trying to honor my grandma Ama with a variation of her name for my daughter. After much thought and many names ruled out (I dont want any confusion with Emily or Amelia), I'm down to Amelise and Ameline. I got a lot of criticism for Amelise even though I still find it so stunning. I'm struggling with middle name pairings if I go with Ameline instead.

Choices:

Amelise Madeleine
Ameline Madalie
Ameline Natalie
Ameline Loleta

Which do you prefer? Thank you much for the help!

I think you need something shorter without any Ms in it.

Amelise Kate
Amelise Tara
Ameline Ruth

YouBumder · 21/02/2019 16:55

I think the middle names are all too much of a mouthful with those first names. I think something shorter would be better.

I also think Amelise looks like a verb and could also easily be mistaken for Annelise. Ameline might be mistaken for Amelie.

Wellmeetontheledge · 21/02/2019 16:55

Both are lovely but I think they would go best with a shorter middle name.

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 21/02/2019 16:57

By the way, what is the origin of Ama and Amelise/Ameline?

Would it bother you that people may, if you're in the UK, think the name is Anneliese or Emmeline?

Threenager · 21/02/2019 17:16

Ameline. Or better yet...amelina- this is gorgeous!

ILoveMaxiBondi · 21/02/2019 17:19

Are either of those actual names?

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 21/02/2019 17:32

Amelise may not be a real name! Ameline is - or so I was told when I had Amelise ripped to shreds😂

Both are technically combined names I believe. Amelie combined with Elise = Amelise. Amelie combined with Emmaline = Ameline. I almost just went for Amalie but it's too popular and sounds too much like Emily. I just cannot!!

I dont mind that these are combination names, even though I realize they aren't many people's style. I enjoy the uniqueness and I dont think these combinations produce anything "too out there." So if the criticism has to do with that, I'm hoping we can agree combined names just aren't everyone's style but if you had to try to like them... lol
For some reason I'm okay with knowing Amelise may be confused for Annalise. To me, it's better than Emily or Amelia. I do live in the states and those names are super common right now nor do I care for either.

Given the advice for a shorter middle name, what about Ameline Lola? I actually just discovered I love Ameline Lolette but is that still too long?

I'm super stuck on Amelise Madeleine if I go that route.

I guess I'm asking for how yo make the best of the situation. I dont think I can find a variant I like that isnt a combination name. I've been around and around.

The closest I may be starting to like is Amia. I'm possibly open to that one. Amia Madeleine?

Amylase is an enzyme (something to do with starch) and that was the first thing I thought of when I when I saw Amelise.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 21/02/2019 17:45

Yes, I have been told this. This is why I'm open to Ameline and Amia now.

I feel like the spelling and pronunciation of this enzyme are not all alike and I dont think everyone knows this enzyme name. I mean that wasnt on the top of my mind. Every name rhymes or sounds similar to some random word, right? So I dont know that this is enough to be a dealbreaker. It's an enzyme but it's not anything super disgusting or easily made fun of by other children. But I hear you, it's been pointed out enough where I'm like okay maybe I cant use it for this reason.

OP its great that you want to honour a relative but one of the possible problems here is the fact that Annaliese (usual spelling) is already a compound name - a mixture of Anna/Anne plus Liese (= a shortening of Elisabeth). Adding an extra element to be blended in - the 'm' rather than the double 'n' - runs the risk of making the name sounding a bit muddled and confused.

However, as I'm sure you already know, Ameline is a 'real' name - a pet name for the French Amelie. Emmeline is the English-language equivalent.

daisypond · 21/02/2019 17:54

Would you think about Amabel? It's a very old name, medieval. It's where we get the more modern name Mabel from. It's lovely.

WrongKindOfFace · 21/02/2019 17:56

If you want it to contain Ama what about Amaryllis, or Tamara?

She’ll spend her entire life correcting people if you go for a made up name.

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 21/02/2019 17:58

Would you pronounce Amia a-MEE-ya or a-MY-a or A-meeya?

Any chance of just using Ama as a middle name? And maybe going for something with a meaning your grandmother would like as the first one? Eg Iris (rainbow) Ama Surname

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 21/02/2019 18:16

I'm not really looking for suggestions anymore. More just like choosing between what I've already narrowed down:

Amelise Madeleine
Amia Madeleine
Ameline Lolette
Ameline Lola
Ameline Madalie
Ameline Natalie

Rachelhaydenberk1 totally everything sounds like / looks like something. Amylase is a fairly important thing in gcse Biology and whilst secondary school must seem a lifetime away it’ll be upon you before you know it.

KittyMcKitty · 21/02/2019 18:20

From your list I would choose Ameline Natalie

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 21/02/2019 18:39

We aren't as smart here in the US! Haha I'm just kidding!

As much as I loved Amelise, Ameline and Amia are starting to grow on me!

Amarlie - we know one and it’s unusual and beautiful.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 21/02/2019 18:51

Oh my!! I love this! Amarlie!! I know I said I wasnt looking for new suggestions but I'm so glad you said this. This is stunning and I love the mar sound. Okay adding this to the list!

Amarlie Madeleine
Amarlie Lolette

Hmmm...

KittyMcKitty · 21/02/2019 18:54

Rachelhaydenberk1 ah that’s why you would pronounce them differently! I’d pronounce them the same. Smile

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 21/02/2019 19:04

Ahhh yes well Amelise is a combination name between Ama and Elise. So its pronounced Am-Elise. I believe the enzyme is pronounced Am-ee-lace. I get that is close and weird though.

OP posts:
Sophronia · 21/02/2019 22:39

Ameline Natalie

Bezalelle · 21/02/2019 22:53

Not Lolette! Too porny.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 21/02/2019 23:29

Oh wow I never thought about that. Probably best to stick to Lola.

I kinda like Ameline Lola.

OP posts:
Antonin · 22/02/2019 01:05

If you went with Amarlie don’t use Lola or Lolette because thereto many Ls that somehow tangle one’s tongue
