Wyatt?

My husband really wants to call our son Wyatt. Yes it’s very American, but our son will be a dual citizen. We currently live in the US but will be moving to the UK in the next few years, as we are also dual citizens. What do people think? It’s not my favorite but I got my first choice with our two oldest kids, so don’t want to just say no.

Put a gun on your stomach, if he reacts then say yes. If not it’s a name which he’ll be teased over his whole life...

Tavannach · 11/02/2019 03:02

It's not a great sounding name. What's next on your DH"s list?

NeverHadANickname · 11/02/2019 03:13

I really like Wyatt and always have 😊

beefive · 11/02/2019 03:26

Lovely name and not so uncommon. There's a few dotted about my local playgroups etc lately

ThriftyMcThrifty · 11/02/2019 03:53

Well I don’t have a gun!! But why would he be teased? Glad to hear it’s not so unusual now.

Personally don't like it - sounds like a drug dealer/naughty boy name.

I don't like surnames as first names generally, but I think Wyatt is particularly unattractive.

brookshelley · 11/02/2019 05:53

I grew up in America and I don't like the name at all...not common among my friends with kids living there either.

PFB2 · 11/02/2019 05:55

I really think Wyatt is just a horrible sounding name. Certainly not something I'd ever, ever want to call a lovely little newborn. Sorry OP.

bekindtome · 11/02/2019 05:57

I quite like it. No one liked the name I picked so I changed it. I now regret doing so

Poppylizzyrose · 11/02/2019 05:58

I like it, my friends son has that name. Plus he’s English, it fits even more that your son is dual. Just goes to show lots of people have different opinions on names. It’s really up to you and his dad x

confusedandcrazymother · 11/02/2019 06:20

Personally I don’t like it. The trend in the UK are traditional names like William, Alexander etc. I think wyatt will stick out like a sore thumb. Also to keep in mind that American names always seem to be favoured by a lower social demographic....

17caterpillars1mouse · 11/02/2019 07:59

I really like Wyatt (for a boy only). It was on my list but I couldn't convince DH

I like that its known but unusual, easy to say and spell. I think it looks nice written down too.

I imagine a little blonde boy who is a bit quirky and loves the outdoors, probably running around wearing dungarees collecting bugs.

erja · 11/02/2019 08:59

I also quite like it.

StarJumpsandaHalf · 11/02/2019 09:09

I’ve only ever heard of Wyatt from Wyatt Earp, hence the gun and teasing references above. He’s long dead but his history lives on and it’s not pleasant.

To me it sounds like a trailer park name, but I suppose if the only Wyatt I’d ever heard of had been President, I might think it was quite distinguished 🤷🏻‍♀️

Icklepup · 11/02/2019 09:14

I don't like it, is there another option?

Cbeebiesrehab · 11/02/2019 10:22

Yikes, didn’t expect such strong reactions to the nameConfused
I personally don’t like it but it’s not the worst name I’ve heard. Seeing the reactions here though I would possibly think again.

Shadow1234 · 11/02/2019 11:31

I really like it, and yes you are always going to get people with different opinions and tastes, but if you like it, then go for it.

LostwithSawyer · 11/02/2019 11:35

Not a fan, doesn't seem like a real name.

Didyeeaye · 11/02/2019 11:37

I love Wyatt! It's the Angel from Charmed so has good connotations in my mind. Plus its cooler and a bit more unique than William or Michael etc

MondeoFan · 11/02/2019 11:38

I really like it, it's better than adding to the list of Jacks, Williams, Harry's and Masons.
I'd use it if it goes with your other boys names. I wouldn't listen to old history tbh otherwise you wouldn't call your Son Levi etc it's silly

Didyeeaye · 11/02/2019 11:41

What a weird thing to comment. Maybe you should speak to someone about these bizarre thoughts. .

Pieceofpurplesky · 11/02/2019 12:16

Watch Tombstone and see if you still agree

Bubastes · 11/02/2019 12:20

I really like it, OP! Much prefer it to the drippy Wilfred and Rupert type names that are adored on MN.

Bubastes · 11/02/2019 12:22

'Also to keep in mind that American names always seem to be favoured by a lower social demographic....'

Tedious snobbery.

stellarfox · 11/02/2019 14:23

I like Wyatt! I have never met one and it does sound American to me but he will be half American!
