Wyatt?

My husband really wants to call our son Wyatt. Yes it’s very American, but our son will be a dual citizen. We currently live in the US but will be moving to the UK in the next few years, as we are also dual citizens. What do people think? It’s not my favorite but I got my first choice with our two oldest kids, so don’t want to just say no.

Horrible

Tillygetsit · 11/02/2019 17:38

Blimey some very over the top negative reactions! I prefer Wilbur to Wyatt but it's not horrible.

YouBumder · 11/02/2019 17:41

I think it’s a bit ugly but also I’ve heard it more commonly recently for girls. It’s not terrible though.

3out · 11/02/2019 17:44

Where will you live in the UK? Wyatt sounds like a Yorkshire man saying ‘why that’, slowly. Perhaps only in my own head though!

People grow into their names though, and after a very short while you can’t imagine them with any other name. He’ll be fine. (The first word that sprang to mind was Earp though)

RockyFlintstone · 11/02/2019 18:01

No, it's awful.

lljkk · 11/02/2019 18:19

Earp was Jewish (it's said)

He was a good guy. I think it works.

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 11/02/2019 18:25

I like it, and infinitely prefer it to Hayden/Jayden/Kayden and Ollie/Alfie/Charlie.

Parent19876 · 11/02/2019 20:07

I personally like it! But, I'm half American...
I know a few Wyatt's who are under five, and it's a rambunctious name!

ThriftyMcThrifty · 11/02/2019 23:58

Haha really splitting opinion here. We’d live in London, so think we can be more daring names wise. Personally I don’t love Wyatt, but do know some very lovely little boys with the name. They are not from the trailer park though, their parents are lawyers, doctors and producers. My personal favorite name is Jude but my husband dislikes it, and as I said I got my first choice the last two times. I also like Gus, short for August. But he’ll be an April baby... is that weird? Anyway, thanks for the replies, seems people either love it or they hate it.

Oh and we do both love Dylan, but have decided against using it, for a family reason. However if anyone can suggest boys names like Dylan, Gus, Wyatt and Jude, I would love your help. Our oldest is Leo.

Thanks Calloway - by the way I know a baby with your user name. Jesse is nice, I know a few and they are all nice boys which is a good sign.

A baby named Calloway, if that wasn’t clear.

Calloway · 12/02/2019 00:29

Oooh i've never heard it used as a first name. I quite like it Grin

Cal is cool too.

Okay that's it, call your baby Calloway!

ThriftyMcThrifty · 12/02/2019 00:33

Haha yes maybe we need to think a bit more widely, and cal is pretty cool. My son (who will not get a say in it) likes the names Barry and Dennis, my daughter likes Flower. Poor baby.

I'm old enough to associate Wyatt with the film Weird Science.

Great film, but not one I'd want a child associated with.

ThriftyMcThrifty · 12/02/2019 03:10

I’ve got to say that after rereading this thread, Wyatt has grown on me somewhat. I think it would be nice to have a more unusual name, and clearly Wyatt’s never going to be the most popular in the uk, reading these comments.

I dont like it at all but thats just my opinion

MonsterKidz · 12/02/2019 04:28

I live in the States and work in schools here.

It’s a very popular name where I am from. I can think of 3 boys that I know right now
calles Wyatt who are under 5.

I’m from the UK. I’d never heard of it tbere.

But then both of my DC have very English names and no one had heard of them here!

youllhavehadyourtea · 12/02/2019 21:33

Wyatt. Wait, what?

Sorry, not for me.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 12/02/2019 21:39

It’s awful, sounds very dated American to me, but who am I ? it’s not the children who rip other children about names but their opinionated parents. Name him what you want sod everyone
