Do you like it?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bryjam · 07/02/2019 16:48

No. I would forever link it with Maxine Carr. Sorry.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 07/02/2019 16:52

Maxime from Corrie also!!

Petalflowers · 07/02/2019 16:52

Yes, unusual but not too unusual, that people wouldn’t know it.

My first thought was that is a nice name that’s due a comeback.

Kintan · 07/02/2019 16:57

It’s a nice enough name but I instantly thought of the tragic Soham case.

notangelinajolie · 07/02/2019 17:01

It's lovely but unfortunately it's one of those names that is fresh in peoples memory for all the bad reasons.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 07/02/2019 17:01

Nope.

DreamsofJacaranda · 07/02/2019 17:09

No. It sounds dreary, and I’ve never met one I liked. Also bad association with Soham murders as pps said.
Apologies to any Maxine’s Blush

Soubriquet · 07/02/2019 17:14

No no and no

I like some old fashioned names but this is just awful

Bubastes · 07/02/2019 17:20

I think it sounds quite fresh and I didn't even think of Maxine Carr until I read the other responses. I bet it will be fashionable again in a few years time along with Yvette and Yvonne.

ChipButtyNotABap · 07/02/2019 17:23

I don't think it will be popular again for at least another generation because of Maxine Carr.

Some names just do have connotations.

Megan2018 · 07/02/2019 17:27

I thought Maxine Carr too, sorry!
I also don't like how it looks. But I like Max so that is odd I know!

pontiouspilates · 07/02/2019 17:38

No, I know a perfectly nice Maxine, but really don't like the name at all.

MikeUniformMike · 07/02/2019 18:43

Maxine Peake. It's fine. Max is ok as a girl's name now apparently.

Alison100199 · 07/02/2019 18:48

Maxine Carr. It's like using Myra unfortunately.

Susannach · 07/02/2019 19:27

I like it! The Maxine Carr association hadn’t occurred to me, Maxine Peake to me. I love Max for a girl’s nickname too.

MikeUniformMike · 07/02/2019 19:34

The Maxine Carr association didn't occur to me either. If someone hadn't mentioned Soham, I would have had to google.

AfterSchoolWorry · 07/02/2019 19:37

I'd think of Maxine Carr too.

AntheaGreenfern · 07/02/2019 19:43

I don't like it at all I'm afraid
It's similar in feel to Jacqueline to me.

Bubastes · 07/02/2019 19:44

Oooh I'm quite fond of Jacqueline. I definitely think 'French names that were popular in the 60s and 70s' is an up and coming baby naming genre! You read it here first, folks. Grin

anatol · 07/02/2019 19:54

I didn't immediately think of the Soham connection but if it bothers you that people might then what about Martine as an alternative?

daisypond · 07/02/2019 20:27

My first thought was Maxine Peake. I like it. I hadn't thought of Maxine Carr at all.

duggeehug85 · 07/02/2019 20:33

It's my middle name and I have never liked it.

MumUnderTheMoon · 07/02/2019 20:58

I'm not a fan I'd just use Max

midsomermurderess · 07/02/2019 21:16

Maxine Peake here. I think it's a bit of a throw-back to the 1970s.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/02/2019 19:20

I do like it. However to me it's a spooky name because as a child o had the most terrible nightmare about a little girl called Maxine who went up to the Bell Tower in my infant school and got murdered. It still traumatises me to this very moment.
I must stress Maxine wasn't someone I knew in real life and the nightmare wasn't a premonition.
