If not Juliette. Any suggestions?

So after my last post about DP not being sure about Juliette as he hates the potential for possible DD (we don’t know the sex) to be nicknamed Julie.
Which nearly everyone agreed with me was extremely, if not completely unlikely.

I’m looking for any suggestions for alternatives. I still love Juliette so I find hard to think of anything else. Plus he hasn’t outright refused to use it yet.

DD1 has a long name so I feel like possible DD2 should be similar (I’ll post DD1s name in a separate comment).
I also prefer classic names but less common with a literary, Greek mythology or botantical reference.

So please, give me some inspiration 🙏🏻

I love Juliet. I have a friend called Juliet in her 50s. It is never shortened. In our family Helena is pronounced Heleena. (nn Lena). I also love Selene. Slightly biased- DD4 has it as her middle name.

I have a Juliet though, DP is just wrong!

Josephine

My fantasy girl twins would be called Josephine and Juliet.

I have known a few Juliet/tes. None have been known as Julie.

Junette

In defence of your do this is exactly the reason we didn’t name dd2 Juliet. I was pretty set on using it, as was he, we loved jules as a nick name but really disliked Julie. We figured why give our daughter a name that can easily be shortened to a name which neither of us like! I now have a twinge of regret after reading all those who have a Juliet or shortened to Julie.

SlimGin · 04/02/2019 21:20

Honestly If I knew a Juliette I wouldn't shorten it and if I did it'd be Jules.I think especially these days, there aren't many little Julie's around it's definitely an older name.
Or
Rosanna
Arrietty
Clarissa
Clelia (love this name)
Dahlia
Hermione (I knew a Hermione at uni and although she was the complete wrong age for that name - as in she was probably 8/9 when Harry Potter took off - she was strong and interesting and set herself apart from hermione granger)
Dolores

I love Juliet(te).

How about Cecily/Cecelia, Elizabeth, Marianne or Victoria as an alternative?

EngagedAgain · 04/02/2019 21:41

I prefer Juliet. I also don't think it will get shortened to Julie, whereas I think Juliette is more likely to. What about Serena? Think that's nicer than Selena or Selina.

Thanks all. I like
Gabrielle/ Gabriella but DP doesn’t and thinks she’ll get called Gobby 🙄
Cecelia / Celia have always loved this but a friend has one so not sure I could / would use it
Josephine I’ve liked for a long time and always thought Sephie / Josie we’re good nicknames but I once mentioned it to my mum and she put me off it a bit by saying it was old fashioned

The only Juliet I've known (and I think it's a beautiful name) was called Ju for short, which is perfectly nice. I think people tend to call the person what they are told their name is. My name has lots of possible nn but I'm only ever called the one that I go by.

Carouselfish · 05/02/2019 11:04

Exactly why I put Juliette as a middle name op.
What about Lisette/Lysette?
I used Carmen in the end as first.

CocoLoco87 · 05/02/2019 11:13

I love Juliet! I like Jules as a nn. Also love Cecelia nn Cece, Harriet nn Hattie. What about Henrietta?

whattimeisitnow · 05/02/2019 12:43

I think we have very similar taste as I had both Juliet and Penelope on my shortlist and like the same name references too.
