I like it, but I'd definitely spell it Rachel, I think Rachael looks like it's spelt wrong! Blush

Mysticbottom · 02/02/2019 15:16

I know a few modern Rachel's - around age 10. Biblical names do tend to stand the test of time

Pemba · 02/02/2019 15:39

Well it was popular in the 70s and 80s. I know some born 60s as well. Doesn't stop it being a good name, and a classic I'd say.

Pemba · 02/02/2019 15:57

The spelling Rachael is definitely a thing! Like Michael I suppose, also a biblical name. But I do prefer Rachel.

CountessVonBoobs · 02/02/2019 15:59

I think it's a classic. Pretty without being confining or precious.

MariaNovella · 02/02/2019 15:59

My sister is called Rachel and I think it’s an awful name!

PetuliaBlavatsky · 02/02/2019 16:03

I know a young Rachel (

EngagedAgain · 02/02/2019 16:03

Not sure which one is the biblical version. I like both versions, the only thing is I wonder if people are more likely to spell Rachael wrong?

SirVixofVixHall · 02/02/2019 16:04

I really like it, i like classic, timeless names.

Scandaloso · 02/02/2019 16:05

I like it and suspect it will be Top 10 name again twenty years from now.

BabyMoonPie · 02/02/2019 16:05

DD, who just turned 2, is Rachel. All the hospital staff / HV/ midwives commented on the name along the lines of "we've not had one of those for ages" so unlikely she'll be one of several

WallisFrizz · 02/02/2019 16:05

It’s my daughter’s middle name, I love it but don’t like the Rachael spelling.

Scandaloso · 02/02/2019 16:05

I'd spell it Rachel as that's how 9/10 people will assume it's spelt.

MariaNovella · 02/02/2019 16:07

Rebecca is a much more beautiful name than Rachel, with similar connotations.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 02/02/2019 16:07

My youngest is called Rachel, she is almost 14.
I don't think there is another Rachel in her year group at school.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 02/02/2019 16:08

Maria.

Rachel is a beautiful name on it's own.
Hmm

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 02/02/2019 16:08

I have a friend whose name is spelt Racheal. Poor girl always has to explain. It’s a nice name but was very popular in the 1960s through to the 1980s.

Scandaloso · 02/02/2019 16:09

I'd be put off Rebecca by all the 'such a Becky' type slang that's arisen around that name. Chads and Beckys.

Squickety · 02/02/2019 16:10

Not helpful but I know a Racheal. I always wonder if it was deliberate or whether her parents got the spelling of Rachael wrong!

Pemba · 02/02/2019 16:23

Scandaloso, I thought it was 'Chads and Staceys' .

RhubarbaraWindsor · 02/02/2019 16:37

I love the name but then I'm biased as I'm a Rachel, born early 60's when girls were given names like Tina or Susan or Tracy or Karen. I was almost called Stella and I can't thank my mother enough that she changed her mind! I know it can be spelt Rachael, but I've never come across one to my knowledge.

Jaz32 · 02/02/2019 20:21

Rachel is my middle name and you don’t hear of many these days. I had a colleague Rachael and she hated it when people pronounced it Raquel by mistake! I taught a Rachel who would now be 7, and I know one baby Rachel as well. I like it and Rach is ok too.

WorriedJu · 02/02/2019 20:30

I love the name Rachel. Prefer the Rachel spelling too.
My little sister is called Rachel and I've always been envious of her name. Shesin her 40s.

It's never been massively popular so I doubt youll ever find tour daughter in a class full of them. Nor is it so rare she'll be repeating it for ever when introducing herself.

I think it's a lovely classic and timeless name.

Thegoblins · 02/02/2019 20:35

It's great. I prefer Rachel. It sounds good to my ear, it's an open book kind of name without being bland (in my opinion).

Onceihadaname · 02/02/2019 20:38

She will be a rach, rack, Raquel, so not a good name to pick if you don't like people giving your daughter a nickname, but otherwise lovely. Definately the Rachel spelling, not Rachael though.
I was only thinking the other day how suprised I was that I hadn't heard of any tiny rachel's these days with the classic name revival
