This was our shortlist that we were going to spend the next few weeks whittling down. Now we need to to it in a rush. Thoughts please. We want a strong name that’s unusual without being weird.

Eliza
Nina
Ariana
Tessa
Frieda
Alma
Theodora
Isadora

Theodore
Thea for short

Tinty · 25/01/2019 15:37

I like your list.

I would use Nina.

Have you noticed they all end in A was that deliberate?

Can I just chuck in Astrid because I have been saying this name on baby name threads forever and so far no takers Grin.

MikeUniformMike · 25/01/2019 15:42

Astrid is lovely but also likely to be fairly popular.

Parthenope · 25/01/2019 15:44

Nina or Theodora. Congratulations, OP.

youarenotkiddingme · 25/01/2019 15:56

Eliza or Freya for me.

Agree though you have a few weeks to see what fits and feels right for you. I'm sure you need time to recover from the surprise early arrival as well so stressing over a name is not necessary!

Is it? I don't know anyone who has named their DD's Astrid apart from one I met 24 years ago.

I wanted to name my DD Astrid but DP didn't like it. Sad

DD on the other hand does like it and says she would have liked to have been called Astrid.

I don't know many littlies now mine are teenagers and older is it popular now?

disneymumx · 25/01/2019 16:04

I have just named my little girl Eliza. I absolutely adored it throughout my whole pregnancy as it is quite uncommon and probably not likely to ever be too popular. Never wanted something that everyone had, or that was just one of them trend names. Congratulations too!

Aquilla · 25/01/2019 16:10

Nina is lovely. Congratulations!

MikeUniformMike · 25/01/2019 16:17

I like Astrid because it seems feminine but not frilly, not too long, easy to say and spell, nice meaning and it's a name that's been around for a long time. (Marie-Astrid of Luxembourg, Astrid Lindgren...)
I know a few little ones.
I've just had a look at the top 100 names for 2018 and was surprised that Astrid isn't there.

gentlyscented · 25/01/2019 16:26

Nina, congratulations

pisspawpatrol · 25/01/2019 16:43

Nina

ninalovesdragons · 25/01/2019 16:44

Nina! (I'm biased though Wink)

Yulebealrite · 25/01/2019 16:44

Nina is lovely

PippilottaLongstocking · 25/01/2019 16:47

I think Isadora is a good middle ground between Eliza and Theodora so a bit of both or your choices

17caterpillars1mouse · 25/01/2019 16:49

Eliza, Tessa, Theodora or Isadora. Scrap the rest and trt each out to see which fits.

I think my favourite is Isadora but not sure it would suit every child

Discobabe98 · 25/01/2019 16:50

Congrats Grin Theodora nn Theo. It’s my first choice for a girl. Suppose you could also shorten to Thea or Teddy

MsMustDoBetter · 25/01/2019 17:03

Congratulations!

I love Nina, Tessa or Isadora.

pilates · 25/01/2019 17:59

IdblowJonSnow · 25/01/2019 18:34

Ooh. I like Frieda! Strong name! Congrats op!

comebacksoonsusan · 25/01/2019 19:02

I really like isadora and Theodora.

Nina is sweet but I know of four under 5 round my way. Could be coincidence.

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 25/01/2019 19:06

Isadora, Theodora or Nina. Tessa is lovely too.

Banana1979 · 25/01/2019 19:13

I think Eliza is v common. I like ariana..Dont kmow anyone of that name except the singer. Theodora is very greek ( i speak greek) theo means God. Isodora is the most unusual and very nice..i like the shortened name dora too
So 4 me either ariana or isodora , tessa is a no no 4 me. I live next to a street called Alma road so im not fond of it as a human name lol
