Fox

What are your honest thoughts on Fox?

I liked the name as I've always loved Fox Mulder on X Files, DP likes it too (we can't agree on many names so that in itself is a miracle!).

Had a little search on the name - as you do - and quite a few articles came up tipping it as very popular in 2019 along with other animal names!

I'm not after a overly unique out of the top 1000 name or anything but now slightly put off as it's deemed 'trendy' - ha!

Also worried about parents opinions, teasing etc, but just love the name. Dilemma!

I think it's still an unusual name.. but you have the benefit of things like Teddy and Wren and Robin being very popular at the moment so people wouldn't laugh out load at it like they might have done ten tears back. So I'd go for it if you like it.

bridgetreilly · 23/01/2019 12:30

Oh, FFS. No. And that's why.

silkpyjamasallday · 23/01/2019 12:32

I wouldn't give DC an out there name like Fox unless they aren't ever going to have to work/be taken seriously in a professional environment. I know a Tiger and a Fox, but they are both trustfund kids so it's of no consequence.

sunnyside23 · 23/01/2019 12:33

@Ribbonsonabox this is very true, thank you! DP says in ten years time it won't be an unusual name as there will be far stranger names out there.

I love Fox for a baby and an adult but not sure how it will work for those teenage years haha!

It's a stupid name. No.

GB54 · 23/01/2019 12:34

I love it. I think it’s still very unique but not unusual, if that makes sense? I don’t think it would cause teasing.

Racecardriver · 23/01/2019 12:36

I don’t actually think fox is thaaaat unusual. It’s not like you’ll be calling him beaver or walrus. That said though foxes are fairly unpleasant creatures. Do you really to name your child that?

sunnyside23 · 23/01/2019 12:36

@silkpyjamasallday this is true and that has crossed our minds too! Our surname is traditional and Fox goes well with it but agree something to think about...

I think it's a great name but wouldn't be brave enough to use it. I'd worry about being taken seriously as an adult. Love the sound though.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 23/01/2019 12:37

noooooooo

it always makes me wonder

“will he have a brother called gerbil”?

ecuse · 23/01/2019 12:38

I think it's pretty preposterous TBH and I would (inwardly) roll my eyes if introduced to a child called Fox.

Calvinsmam · 23/01/2019 12:39

It’s a great name for a little boy.

Not so sure about a fully grown man.

sunnyside23 · 23/01/2019 12:39

@GB54 I know what you mean it's different but not totally out there in comparison to other names. But someone mentioned it sounded a little too 'try hard' which made me laugh!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 23/01/2019 12:39

Grin I think of Mulder too and that makes me smile (loved the X Files!). Not sure I’d have the nerve to use it, though. Somehow Wolf or Tiger seem less out there to me.

Ribbonsonabox · 23/01/2019 12:39

People need to let go of their concept of 'names that would suit An adult' because the majority of next generation adults are going to have names like this. Youd probably attract more attention with a name like Cheryl or Barry! My friend is junior doctor and she is called Blossom and no ones taken the blindness bit of notice.

Poppylizzyrose · 23/01/2019 12:40

If he has a brother call him hound, like fox and the hound Disney film 😍❤️

meow1989 · 23/01/2019 12:40

I wanted to call DS Fox, Bear or Wolf!
DH veto'd firmly 😓😂

My friends dn is called Fox, it suits him so well.

sunnyside23 · 23/01/2019 12:43

@Racecardriver Beaver or Walrus!! HahaGrinGrin yes that's true they raid bins...

sunnyside23 · 23/01/2019 12:45

@lakehouse I like the sound too. But then I do like lovely sounding names like Theo and Leo and Finn also, which are total opposites to Fox!

This baby name malarkey is difficult.

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut hahah!

I can see it now, "Gerbil - tipped to be hot for 2030" - Nameberry GrinGrin

MumUnderTheMoon · 23/01/2019 12:49

I think it's great no more strange than Bear. You could always use it as a middle name.

Fashionista101 · 23/01/2019 12:49

Oh I love it! Do it :) he will grow with the name and it will suit him. Kids don't know any different, they only hear the opinions of narrow minded adults ;)
