What are your honest thoughts on Fox?

I liked the name as I've always loved Fox Mulder on X Files, DP likes it too (we can't agree on many names so that in itself is a miracle!).

Had a little search on the name - as you do - and quite a few articles came up tipping it as very popular in 2019 along with other animal names!

I'm not after a overly unique out of the top 1000 name or anything but now slightly put off as it's deemed 'trendy' - ha!

Also worried about parents opinions, teasing etc, but just love the name. Dilemma!

I think it's a bit dated, actually, but I don't mind it as a middle name. I know a couple of people with Fox as a middle name - but they're in their mid-20s. Name is associated with Fox Mulder, so it dates from when X Files was influential when the parents were young.

Longlostperson · 24/01/2019 10:41

I actually love it and I don’t like unusual names at all.

Clueing4looks · 24/01/2019 11:27

I always associate animal names with native Americans, so for that reason I wouldn’t appropriate them.

It’s a name for people who want others to think they are all individual and quirky.

Twelve8Ts · 24/01/2019 13:03

So wanting your child to be an individual is a negative thing?

Twelve8Ts · 24/01/2019 13:07

I know of a Fox and a colleagues nephew is Fox so it could become popular, and if you’re looking for something unusual I think whilst now it’s not that common, in the future it could be! I like it though 😊

Ethel36 · 24/01/2019 13:08

I know a baby wolf! I was taken aback at the time but it's really grown on me now! Think it's the baby that makes the name anyway. Wait till it's born then decide.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 24/01/2019 13:17

It’s not an awful name, but I think that along with other growing in popularity animal names in the future it’s going to be very of its time, and potentially become naff and dated.

BertrandRussell · 24/01/2019 13:25

“So wanting your child to be an individual is a negative thing?”

Nope. But thinking a “quirky” “unique” name makes a child an individual is a very negative thing. And names like Fox or Wolf are following a trend just as much as Evie or Oliver.

Isn't that the point of a name? To identify them as uniquely as possible?!

I find Fox much more interesting and memorable than Steve S or Jack D...

Ipanema01 · 24/01/2019 14:12

I had it on my list for number 2 and got completely slated for it on here Grin we went with Milo Fox and it suits him so much. Would still pick Fox for a first though if you love it !

BertrandRussell · 24/01/2019 14:16

“Isn't that the point of a name? To identify them as uniquely as possible?!“
Is it? Wouldn’t a unique number be better then? We could all be known by our national insurance numbers!

BertrandRussell · 24/01/2019 14:18

Incidentally-there were nearly as many baby Foxes as baby Stephens
last year!

Thank you for all your comments on this thread!

With Fox, I originally liked it from X Files so I'm showing my age - haha! But then DP likes it too because it's short, strong, goes with our surname (sounds almost classic when paired with it!) and we liked the sound.

There are all those niggling doubts though, is it too of the moment, how will our older relatives take to it etc

We are still very much undecided so it will remain on the list for now... Thanks again for all the comments. Lots of food for thought 💭

I'm going to look at other similar names - short, with X, etc too see if there's anything else that may work!

Wish me luck!

Jax is quite nice.

Yes it is! However the benefit of letters and words are that they are much easier said than a collection of numbers!

tammytoby · 24/01/2019 15:35

The definition of name:

A name is a term used for identification. Names can identify a class or category of things, or a single thing, either uniquely, or within a given context.

OutPinked · 24/01/2019 15:57

I quite like it tbh. I wanted to use the diminutive Bear for DS but it hasn’t stuck. My best friend was going to be called Wolf but his DM wasn’t brave enough so he got a very common name instead and wishes she’d gone with Wolf.

Fox is pretty cool.
