Matilda or Jemima

mummyofboys30 · 14/01/2019 15:51

Had girls name Matilda since my first pregnancy (all boys).
But I recently heard the name Jemima and keep going back to it. It somehow appealed to me.
Which one do you prefer? And why?
Popularity isn't an issue for us so no responses based on stats please!
Thank you.

Matilda and simply because it sounds more feminine

CarrieBlu · 14/01/2019 15:55

Matilda - I think it suits through all ages. Jemima is lovely too but I always think it doesn’t work as well for adults as it does for young children.

Topofthehills · 14/01/2019 15:55

Matilda

Gumball54 · 14/01/2019 16:08

Definitely Matilda.

MollyHuaCha · 14/01/2019 16:16

Jemima for me.

Elliss2018 · 14/01/2019 16:21

Matilda is beautiful

AutumnCrow · 14/01/2019 16:31

I really like them both. I have friends called both. Abbreviations = Jem, and Mattie. Does that affect how you feel?

Thiswayorthatway · 14/01/2019 16:32

Jemima. Lots of Matildas around.

Peachbubble · 14/01/2019 16:37

Jemima, but only just. Both lovely names.

mummyofboys30 · 14/01/2019 16:37

AutumnCrow I would always use full name regardless of choice but obviously I understand when they go to school they could get any nicknames

CruCru · 14/01/2019 16:52

Icklepup · 14/01/2019 16:54

Matilda

Sephyjune · 14/01/2019 17:12

Jemima. Much prettier and more unusual

Shockers · 14/01/2019 17:19

Jemima is my DD’s middle name. It would’ve been her first name, but she arrived with one (she’s adopted). I love it.

E20mom · 14/01/2019 17:20

Matilda's lovely. I think Jemima's dreadful.

OutPinked · 14/01/2019 17:58

I love both of them so not much help Grin. I think Matilda has the edge.

Claracracksthenut · 14/01/2019 18:19

I know sisters Matilda and Jemima ( Matty and Mimi or Mat and Mim as often known). Both lovely names but I think Jemima has the edge as prettier and somehow a little more unusual and feminine.

Shockers · 14/01/2019 18:24

I wonder whether, if someone was standing next to a person who had just said their child had a certain name- that someone would declare it to be ‘dreadful’.

Or would they be a little more diplomatic and just say they preferred the alternative?

Dancingfairydreams · 14/01/2019 18:58

Both lovely! Matilda is on my list. Congrats on the girl, how many boys do you have?

ZebraKid71 · 14/01/2019 20:03

If popularity isn't an issue then matilda.

I grew up in the states and can't escape the aunt jemima thing!

RedDwarves · 14/01/2019 21:08

Matilda.

I like the meaning of Jemima, but I just can't love it for some reason. Matilda I love.

silkpyjamasallday · 14/01/2019 21:10

Jemima was what DD would have been called if we didn't have a family name we wanted to use. Such a lovely name

Endofrelationship · 14/01/2019 22:12

Jemima. Every other girl in my DSs baby group is Matilda. Not kidding, if I forgot a kids name, I would say Matilda and was usually right.
