what’s the consensus regarding the surname sharing two letters from the first name.

Examples are:
Freya Farmer

Heidi Hayden

Is that a no go? Too mean?

Thanks!

It’s not as bad as David Davies.

ShalomJackie · 14/01/2019 08:50

My married name became a name like that. The first one in yours sounds ok the second less so. So I would say it depends on the name.

eg. Joshua Jackson sounds fine

As long as its not something like Edward Edwards or William Williams I think it's ok.

HalfBloodPrincess · 14/01/2019 08:51

I like it! But I love alliterative names though.

dontpointatme · 14/01/2019 08:52

My married name has also gone like that and I much prefer it to my maiden name. I think they sound great.

MamaDane · 14/01/2019 08:54

I know people called e.g. Jens Jensen lol and it's a bit silly, but as long as it's just the same first initials I don't see a problem. Don't overthink it if there's a name you love

brookshelley · 14/01/2019 08:56

One of the US presidential candidates against Trump is called Chris Christie.

brookshelley · 14/01/2019 08:56

I mean in the last election!

flissfloss65 · 14/01/2019 08:57

I like it. I always remember a girl at school called Holly Hartley.

SummerintoAutumn · 14/01/2019 09:03

Mine had two 'T's and I hated it... was glad to change my name when I got married.

goldengummybear · 14/01/2019 09:04

Depends on the name Roger Rogers would be ridiculous where as Catherine Carter is fine.

HSMMaCM · 14/01/2019 09:13

Edward Woodward seems to have done OK with his name. Just choose what you like.

BackForFood · 14/01/2019 09:19

It’s done Leona Lewis no harm.

Cosmoa · 14/01/2019 09:36

Yeah I also love alliteration! My daughters name is like that. 😀

Cosmoa · 14/01/2019 09:40

Stan Lee famously named his marvel characters like that also!

Such as...

Peter Parker
Betty Brant
J. Jonah Jameson
Reed Richards
Sue Storm
Pepper Potts
Happy Hogan
Bruce Banner
Matt Murdock
Scott Summers
Warren Worthington III
Blackagar Boltagon
Bucky Barnes
Barney Barton

Inktank · 14/01/2019 09:50

I don't like the alliteration TBH. It can sound a bit comic, like a cartoon character. Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Peppa Pig.

Heidi Farmer sounds better to me than Heidi Hayden.

elQuintoConyo · 14/01/2019 10:12

William Wordsworth
Walt Whitman
Brian Blessed
Magnus Magnuson Grin

Alliteration can sound lovely if the beginning of the words are different, for example Scott Summers has s+c then s+vowel, it sounds better than Warren Worthington w+vowel then w+vowel again.

ZebraKid71 · 14/01/2019 10:21

Alliteration names are fine imo.

However, id avoid when the first two letters are the same sound (eg. Skye Scott) or if the names end in the same sound (eg. Hayley Hartley) as they're a bit too same.

Astronica · 14/01/2019 12:15

Many alliterative names do sound okay. Sometimes the rhythm and varied number of syllables in each name contribute to whether it works. I had an alliterative name before I married and hated it through school as I felt it drew attention towards me that I didn't want. I personally would avoid giving one to a child because of my own experience.

AhoyDelBoy · 14/01/2019 12:40

They sound fine. I’ve known a John Johnson and a Kenneth Kennedy though which both sound a bit much IMO. Similarly, a semi famous couple I follow on Instagram have a baby called Willow Wendy Wood which I love!

halcyondays · 14/01/2019 12:42

It depends on the name, it works with some but not others.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 14/01/2019 12:42

Can’t believe no one has mentioned Neville Neville yet Grin alliteration is absolutely fine OP but there’s definitely some who’ve taken it to another level!

recently · 14/01/2019 12:45

I love alliterative names - even better when it's almost the same name.

TokyoSushi · 14/01/2019 12:46

My maiden name meant that I had two E's, it didn't flow and was hard to say. As long as it flows nicely then I think it's absolutely fine.

goldengummybear · 14/01/2019 13:20

I would probably avoid the KK alliteration to avoid comparisons with the Kardashians.

MikeUniformMike · 14/01/2019 13:35

What's wrong with David Davies?
I think alliterative names can be good. They are often quite memorable too.
It didn't do Megan Markel, Harriet Harman, Sean Bean, and co any harm.
