Aria or Charlotte

What do you think of Aria? Too faddy/trendy? Will it suit an adult? Is it becoming too common? Do you think of Game of Thrones? I’ve nevr watched it but OH thinks people will assume it’s from that?

What about Charlotte? Too boring/traditional? Do you know many baby Charlottes? She would not be Lottie as we have a Lottie in extended family who is just Lottie tho.

Middle names Aria Elizabeth or Charlotte Amanda.

Thanks!

Definitely Charlotte. It's my daughter's name but we've never met another baby/ toddler with the same name. We wanted something classic and it suits her down to the ground. We never shorten it; but it's nice that she will have a couple of options when she gets a bit older.
I'm pleased to read all the positive comments about it on here

LynetteScavo · 04/01/2019 21:26

@Jaz32 We gave our DD a top 10 name, which DH and I both really like, but doesn't suit DD. Confused

thethoughtfox · 04/01/2019 21:35

What about Ariana?

tryinganewname · 04/01/2019 21:35

I already think Aria is starting to date and it's a name I even thought about for DD who was born 6 months ago.

Jaz32 · 05/01/2019 09:08

Oh no how old is she now and she doesn’t suit her name? Do you feel she’d have suited another choice more?

@thethoughtfox Ariana just reminds me of Ariana Grande so to me it would be like naming a baby Britney (spears) not that there is anything wrong with Ariana or Britney lol just that they remind me of pop stars!

I much prefer Charlotte. Charlotte Aria?

Charlotte was popular long before the princess, so why you'd get comments that you named her after her is beyond me!

Fairylea · 05/01/2019 09:12

Charlotte is much nicer. I just think Game of Thrones when I hear the other one, sorry!

RebeccaCloud9 · 05/01/2019 09:15

I love Charlotte, but the problem with it is it is likely to get shortened and I really dislike all the shortened versions I've seen used.

Aria is beautiful, I've loved it for ages but don't watch got so don't have that connection.

Jaz32 · 05/01/2019 11:02

Have also considered Arabella but seems to be becoming popular plus not keen on Bella.. considered Ariella too but although I think it’s pretty I can’t imagine an old lady called Ariella eg Nanny Ariella lol. Love Amber but OH won’t have it due to my old friend being called it - we don’t see her these days tho!

I like Aria. The GoT character is Arya, which is surely pronounced differently. I don't like Charlotte - there's something about the Ch at the beginning that makes me lump it in with names like Chardonnay. How about Arianne or Ariane?

peachypetite · 05/01/2019 11:16

Go classic. Charlotte.

Tinty · 05/01/2019 11:19

How about Eliza Charlotte?

Sophronia · 05/01/2019 11:23

Aria is so trendy and will date. I know someone who spelled it Aariah for her daughter born last year.

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 05/01/2019 11:25

Charlotte for sure

AgathaMisty · 05/01/2019 14:59

Aria is a beautiful name. Charlotte is nice too but much more 'standard'.

I don't really get the whole 'will date' thing. A lot of people have names that were popular at the time but not really used now but that doesn't mean they sound odd as adult names! For example, some of the top 10 names when I was born were Gemma, Claire and Samantha. They are not common baby names now but I don't flinch when I meet an adult with those names!

babydreamer1 · 05/01/2019 17:18

Aria is very fadish and you'll have another 3 of them in her class no doubt, there are 2 in baby DS's swimming class and there's only 12 babies! It's the new Isla.
Charlotte however is beautiful and classy and can be shortened to Lottie which I think it very sweet.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 05/01/2019 17:21

Each and every time I watch the CBeebies birthday cards announcement, thread an Aria/Arya on there

It’s a name which is going to be very much “of its time”

Or common, as it could be construed.

Jaz32 · 05/01/2019 19:00

@babydreamer1 she will not be Lottie as my cousin has a Lottie who is just Lottie not Charlotte. Which is why I didn’t particularly want Charlotte even though it’s distant family we rarely see but OH loves it and won’t consider anything else now (except Jessica which I don’t like!)

I had no idea Aria was so popular, what areas are all these Aria? As a teacher for the last 5 years I’ve had one Arya in my class last year who is now 6. We’ve since moved area still Greater London/Kent border and I’ve heard of 1 Aria aged about 15 months.

I’m in south London and you hear of lots of babies called it (although this is mostly from family and friends in the North). I think the children called Aria are still too young to be in primary school

Jaz32 · 05/01/2019 19:26

There are tons of charlottes and Lotties tho as well 😩

My name is never used these days I’m 32, I was named after my auntie so quite an old fashioned name but no one bats an eye at it, they often spell it wrong tho as I use a less commonly spelt short version.

Charlotte by a billion miles and I don't even like it that much.

Aria will be like the Kayleigh of the 80's.

Kintan · 05/01/2019 20:57

Why not Charlotte Aria?
