Hi! I need ideas for baby girl , I'm Greek and husband is German and we live in the UK. I'm trying to find a name that will be easily pronounced in all countries plus be nice and a little unique. My list so far is:

Eva
Amelie
Alexandra
Josephine
Christina
Naomi

But I dont completely love any of these! Naomi maybe a little more than the others but it is pronounced Nah-o-mee in greece and germany and Ni-o-mee in the Uk or Nay-oh-mee by americans- so a bit confusing if I call her wrong!

Which name do you like ? And any other ideas?

Alexandra

Beautiful, classy and can't be mispronounced.

Eva is nice too

Alexandra would be the most sensible given your background and it being recognised by all sides. But Naomi is my favourite by far - I think the pronunciation differences are quite small so I wouldn't be bothered by it.

MumUnderTheMoon · 02/01/2019 22:56

I wouldn't really describe any of these names as unique but they are all lovely. All names will be pronounced a little differently in different countries so I wouldn't worry to much about that. What about Athena?

AdaColeman · 02/01/2019 22:58

Christina is my favourite from your list, and works well in all your countries.

Eva and Amelie are already extremely popular in the UK.

I'm not keen on Naomi.

How about Zoe?

Of your list, I would love a Josephine but it would so instantly be shortened to Jo.

Eva would be the most unique.

MargueritaPink · 02/01/2019 23:01

Christina or Alexandra given your criteria. Eva and Amelie have been done to death in the UK.

Carouselfish · 02/01/2019 23:05

Before I read your list I thought Josephine.
The many pronounciations of Naomi are annoying. You'd need to pick one and push it. I think UK is Nay Oh Mi more than Nigh Oh Mi (which is just for idiots who can't spell and are imagining an i somewhere it's not).

firstbrightday · 02/01/2019 23:05

Laura. Very elegant and classic but not a lot of children named it nowadays

Three Alexandra's in my dd class, must've been popular 8/9 years ago!
Naomi I would pronounce as nay-oh-me. A friend of mine had a relative called Noemi (no-emee) I thought that was really pretty.

How about Madeline?

IClavdivs · 02/01/2019 23:15

Go for a Greek name that can be used anywhere.

I'm in Australia, and there is a reasonably large Greek population. I worked with someone whose name was Ourania (Muse of Astronomy) and taught a girl whose older sister was called Europa. I loved it and it always stuck in my mind.

My next door neighbour was originally from Anatolia and his grand daughter was named Cybele.

What about something classical or from mythology like Artemis (or Artemesia - l love that), Hebe, Athena, Demeter, etc? You've got lots of lovely and unusual names to pick from.

Apart from Verity and Genevieve they are all popular. Roseanne makes me think of Roseanne Barr (not a good thing)
