I was born in the late 60s so was at primary school in the 1970s and names I heard then that I don’t hear so much now and liked:

Tamsin
Farrah
Anoushka
Georgina

Tamsin is one of my favourite names. Smile Farrah is lovely too.

I think Kayleigh is really nice. I was born in the mid 80s, and was at school with a few, all were lovely. I also like the similar-sounding, but unrelated Keeley.
I'm a little hesitant to put down the other names of my era that I think are nice, as posters here tend to have strong opinions about them, but here goes: I think Leanne has a very pretty sound to it. I also like Karen and Lauren, Heather and Jennifer. Ashley is nice for boys or girls. I also like Adam, Aaron, Joshua, Jason, James and Zack.

BitOfFun · 29/12/2018 04:21

Clare, Louise, Samantha, Carla, Gillian, Julia.

Anthony, Liam, Christopher, Neil, Paul, John.

WildCherryBlossom · 29/12/2018 05:20

I know 4 little Anoushkas so it definitely hasn't gone out of fashion around here. I haven't met a Tamsin in donkeys years though.

I like Julia and Julian. DH talked me out of using Julian for one of our babies on the grounds that it was too dated.

There were a lot of girls called Claire when I was at school. Clara seems to be the popular variation on that theme now.

Also Sarah - I cannot count the number I know in their 40s and 50s but the youngest I have met is in her early 20s.

Cermet · 29/12/2018 05:26

Erin, Demelza and Bianca. Popular at the same time as Rebecca, Catherine and Nicole where I grew up, but a bit more glamorous.

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/12/2018 05:31

Jacqueline, I knew 4 at school but I've never met one younger than me. i think it's a beautiful name.

RedDwarves · 29/12/2018 07:31

Early 90s here.

I LOVE Sarah, and they are a dime a dozen among 80s and 90s born people, but you never see a little Sarah now.

Others I like which aren't so popular now:
Georgia
Alexandra
Kate
Madeleine

IdaBWells · 29/12/2018 08:44

WildCherryBlossom I'm really surprised about Anoushka! On the other hand is it Polish or used in Poland? That could explain it. I know Agnes in Polish has a similar sound and feel....

Yes IVFlytrap I also love Tamsin but it seems to have really fallen out of favour. I don't believe it's even in the top 100 any more.

I just thought of another 70s name I like, Tara!

wombatsears · 29/12/2018 08:46

Anoushka and Farrah were both on my list for DD. Lovely names.

Piggyhoolier · 29/12/2018 08:51

My DM suggested Tara as a name of DS had been a girl. I wanted Lisa and my DH really liked Hayley. So essentially none of us are very trendy in our name choices Grin

I think Victoria, Louise, Sarah and Laura are other lovely names from my era but nobody much uses them, possibly because to do so would look like you were naming the baby after people you know of the name already. If I chose Laura for a DD for example I have 4 close friends of the name who would all possibly think it was connected to them.

Belindabauer · 29/12/2018 08:54

Claire, Michelle and David.

OneStepMoreFun · 29/12/2018 09:09

I love the names Sarah and Simon. Very definitely names for people born in 60s and 70s.

Kintan · 29/12/2018 09:22

Rachel, Thomas, Matthew, Melanie, Louisa.

SackOfSprouts · 29/12/2018 09:35

Farrah is lovely.

I was born late 70s and there were multiples of Emma, Sarah, Rachel, Michelle, Natalie, Nicola.

I think Natalie is a very pretty name, actually.

Also Natasha, Daniella, Laura.

IceTippedMountains · 29/12/2018 09:43

I was born in '93, I still love Laura, Megan, Paige, Abigail and Ashlee (spelt that way)

Boys are Ryan, Callum, Nathan, Connor and Nicholas.

Hezz · 29/12/2018 09:45

Karen and Juliette

Twisique · 29/12/2018 10:30

Susan and Helen

WildCherryBlossom · 29/12/2018 10:55

@IdaBWells all of them have mixed heritage. One has an Eastern European parent, 2 are half Indian, and the other has a Middle Eastern parent. I think it must be quite a versatile sounding name that suits a child who needs to fit in with different cultures.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 29/12/2018 10:57

Its pre-my era, but I have always loved Evelyn.

No idea why, have never known one, and the only popular culture ref I have is Waugh, whereas "my" Evelyn is the female version.

But there you go.

LokiDokiArtichoki · 29/12/2018 10:59

Samantha, Sarah, Joanna

Billy, Terry

Born 1980

Sarahandduck18 · 29/12/2018 11:06

I liked Susan as a child, don’t know why! Never hear it now.

Jennifer- there were lots but because of all the different nicknames it never felt too common.

Emma-Emily is more popular now.

Lots of boring Catherine’s Louise’s Caroline’s

Boys were Jonathan, Andrew, Stewart, Michael, Paul.

bridgetreilly · 29/12/2018 11:21

Rachel, Rebecca, Claire, Hannah.

OublietteBravo · 29/12/2018 11:23

1970s:
Rebecca, Jane, Ann, Deborah, Nicola, Helen.

PuppyMonkey · 29/12/2018 11:34

All of which I actually quite like as baby names now.
