Do you know how to pronounce Zosia?

I love this name for a girl but I’m worried it would get mispronounced a lot.

Thanks Smile

I taught one once, we said 'zosha' but I'm not 100% sure that's right?

neddle · 28/12/2018 22:15

Zoh-see-a?

WhenLifeGivesYouLemonsx · 28/12/2018 22:16

There was a girl at my work with that name and it was pronounced as "Zo-zee-a"

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 28/12/2018 22:16

A friend just named her baby Zosia (her dh is Polish). We pronounce it “Zo-sha” which is probably a bit anglicised. She seems to be becoming known as Zosh or Zoshie.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 28/12/2018 22:16

Zosha

TheCheeseAlarm · 28/12/2018 22:19

Zosha - like Zosia on Holby City

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 28/12/2018 22:19

Zoh-see-ya.

ThatPeskyElf · 28/12/2018 22:20

Zor-sha

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 28/12/2018 22:23

The one I know is pronounced Zo sha with a short o like the o in bottle. I know a Gosia whose name rhymes with it, Go sha.

ZebraKid71 · 28/12/2018 22:23

Zo_sha

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 28/12/2018 22:26

It's not a name I've come across before so I would probably have guessed Zoh-Zee-ah

Judging from several of the replies I would be wrong!

HoratioNightboy · 28/12/2018 22:28

I've never heard of it before but if I met one, I'd ask how it's pronounced. If I had to take a stab at it I'd go for ZOH-see-a, in an enquiring tone.

MaisyPops · 28/12/2018 22:29

I would have said zoh-zee-ah if I first saw the name.

I have a horrible feeling that's probably miles out.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 28/12/2018 22:30

In polish its Zosha, and I think it is short for Zophia.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 28/12/2018 22:32

I have taught Zosia and Gosia and both introduced themselves as "zosha" and "gosha" with a short O as a PP said. One was 2nd gen but Gosia deffo Polish so think it's sort of authentic!

bellanotte22 · 28/12/2018 22:32

Zo sha with a short o sound

SuzieAndBess · 28/12/2018 22:34

The actress Zosia Mamet pronounces it like a harsher version of Sasha. I’ve also heard Zo-see-ah.
I used to work in a boutique and one of our suppliers were called Zosia and I always thought how gorgeous it looked written down.

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 28/12/2018 22:34

We have one! We pronounce it 'Zo-jsha'...with a very very soft (nearly non-existent 'j'). I love this name. And she gets loads of positive comments about it, so she loves it, too!

Phebes · 28/12/2018 22:39

Pronounced like Zosha, but a bit softer. I’m a Polish speaker.

Thishatisnotmine · 28/12/2018 22:41

Zo-sha but with the z quite soft and S-like. The one I knew was Polish.

Sarahandduck18 · 28/12/2018 22:48

Like Za sh a?

Highlowpo · 28/12/2018 22:50

Goodness I wouldn't have a clue in all honesty. First instinct was Zo-sha.

Gotstuckwiththisname · 28/12/2018 22:51

Zo-sha with long O like Joe.

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 29/12/2018 01:18

I met a dr called Zosia a few weeks ago and she explained she had polish relatives but didn’t speak polish herself and she said it was “zoh-sha” (polish for Sophie??)

It’s a lovely name

BubonicBudgie · 29/12/2018 01:22

Surely you tell people how to pronounce it if they don't know.
