So our baby is due imminently and we need to name him!
We were thinking
Rufus fox
Axel George
Ludo
Jaxon

Anyone got any thoughts ?!
Surname Edwards
Really struggling !!!
We want something

Strong (he will be big we are both 6.5 foot and 5.11 foot!)
Unique but traditional
Not too "cutesy" eg not an Alfie for us !

You do realise that unique and traditional are not compatible?

The problem with many of the suggested names is that you think you are being avant garde and original but the baby groups you go to will turn out to be full of them, if this is your first. Most of those names are in use around here.

That said, Fox would be a great name if the kid could pull it off.

If you have an Otis how about Wilbur? Can just go by will if you liked. I think it's an underused old man's name!

Pemba · 15/12/2018 19:26

Rufus by miles

Axel is a bit odd, OK if you have German connections I suppose, Jaxon is chavvy, Ludo is a joke surely? as is Lido?

tammytoby · 16/12/2018 09:00

Why is Ludovic or Ludo a joke?

greathat · 16/12/2018 09:12

I thought you were naming a dog

Jamjarmama · 16/12/2018 09:28

I like Rufus and Ludo, not keen on the others at all sorry

Heratnumber7 · 16/12/2018 09:34

Anything other than Jaxon!

Rufus is a nn for a fox, so you'd essentially be giving him the same name. Love Rufus though.

midsomermurderess · 16/12/2018 19:08

I really like Rufus.

dingit · 16/12/2018 19:32

Fine ... for a dog 😂

festivedogbone · 17/12/2018 11:53

Rufus fox - Rufus is ok but a bit of a dog's name. Fox is ridiculous and try-hard.
Axel George. Axel is a bit try-hard and has the Axel Rose connection which isn't great. George is ok but boring.
Ludo. No.
Jaxon. Also no.

Polkasq · 17/12/2018 12:48

Rufus George

Pinklily1 · 17/12/2018 15:22

I don't think any of the names on your list are 'unique but traditional'. There are loads of Jackson/ Jaxon's around, for example.

Axel and Rex are just awful, they both sound really harsh to me. If I heard you shouting after Rufus or Ludo in a playground I would think you were shouting after a dog.

Fraula · 17/12/2018 15:30

I like Rufus George too!

Ipanema01 · 19/12/2018 08:54

I like Rufus and someone else’s suggestion of Rex. Otis is top of my list for my third boy and I have a Rafe and a Milo fox if that helps?!
Also have Otto but agree tooclose to Otis.
I know a French Axel, I don’t mind it. Ludo I quite like but maybe too posh and Jacob I really dislike, sorry!

greatpotential · 21/12/2018 07:03

Some other possibilities for your tall boy
Gordon (Gordie)
Magnus
Lewis
Reuben
Elias
Corin

Pixel99 · 21/12/2018 07:21

Having watched (and really enjoyed The Middle) the name Axel works. He was the eldest of the three children (and the youngest was called Brick Grin).

I like Rufus also (I always think of William Rufus who was killed in the New Forest).

Not keen on the spelling of Jaxon, I don't see it falling into your unique but traditional and not cutesy requirements. It comes accross as the exact opposite.

I logged on as I thought Lido for a boys name???!!!

Namedrama · 21/12/2018 07:30

I like Rufus and Ludo but not with Fox.

Axel will always be Axel Rose to me and therefore an anagram for oral sex.

What about Cosmo, Hugo, Milo, Jago, Theo or Walt?

nickname7890 · 23/12/2018 16:22

Thank you everyone! We went for George in the end !!! Xxx merry Christmas xxx

Jaxon is really awful and seems oddly out of whack with your other choices.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 23/12/2018 16:26

That’ll teach me to not RTFT to the end! Congratulations on baby George. Merry Christmas
