So our baby is due imminently and we need to name him!
We were thinking
Rufus fox
Axel George
Ludo
Jaxon

Anyone got any thoughts ?!
Surname Edwards
Really struggling !!!
We want something

Strong (he will be big we are both 6.5 foot and 5.11 foot!)
Unique but traditional
Not too "cutesy" eg not an Alfie for us !

Axel, Ludo and Jaxon are awful. Rufus is cute, I’d definitely go with that.

NameChange30 · 14/12/2018 08:38

Not a huge fan of Ludo but it's better than Lido Grin

How about Max?

Please not Jaxon, it's terrible!

Lineofbeauty · 14/12/2018 08:46

Ludovic is great. Ludo as nn.

Rufus is also good. Axel too. Not keen on Jaxon.

I don't think they are particularly try-hard. Not everyone has to choose WASP names, just go with what you like best.

nickname7890 · 14/12/2018 09:14

Thanks
Lineofbeauty I agree - I wouldn't want something that is uber fashionable that looks "old fashioned" in a few years but I do like diff names otherwise it's William E/George E at school for example as they have so many with the same name!
I think Rufus is a safer bet
But I do really like Axel
Worry is
Ax as a nickname not great
And axel is a bit marmite (my parents and in-laws were a bit horrified but didn't like any of our choices!)

I think Otis and Rufus go together really well OP Smile

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 14/12/2018 09:46

Fergus
Abel
Victor
Rex is very cool !

MrsGollach · 14/12/2018 09:48

All dogs' names.

Babdoc · 14/12/2018 09:51

Scrolling through hurriedly, I misread your thread title as “Ruislip Lido”, and thought poor kid, hell of a name...

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 14/12/2018 09:55

Henrik (or Hendrik) is nice, actually. Or how about Rowan?

Rufus is the only OK one out of your suggestions. Ludovic would be OK, but not just Ludo. Jaxon's dreadful, faddy and dating. Axel is like something a German kid born circa 1972 would have been called (and no German would inflict Axel on their kid these days).

NameChange30 · 14/12/2018 10:07

OP wants a "strong" name, I assume that means masculine, which means that any unisex names like Rowan are probably not going to pass muster, after all most unisex or slightly "feminine" sounding names for boys always get called "wet" on these boards Hmm

Love Rufus. It's great with Edwards. Axel George is quite good, Ludo interesting. Jaxon is terrible.

Love rufus

Love love love Rex

Axel is a family name on my husbands side and love this too. If I was brave enough I'd be tempted!

Not keen on the other x

Verbena87 · 15/12/2018 08:24

Rufus, but yes, not with ‘fox’ as rufous is an adjective and it just makes it sound like a description of a gingery fox, not a name.

stellarfox · 15/12/2018 14:40

I like Rufus and Jaxon but spelt Jackson

moredoll · 15/12/2018 14:44

I like Rufus and Ludo (especially as a NN for Ludovic)

Jude
Sebastian

SweatyFretty · 15/12/2018 14:46

I love Linus... would that work?

FestiveNut · 15/12/2018 14:49

To me, Rufus is a dog. Also rhymes with doofus. Jaxon is the best out of those, followed by Axel. Axel George Edwards spells AGE, though that may not bother you.

StripyDeckchair · 15/12/2018 14:50

Rufus is great- definitely go for that.
Rufus Sewell's middle name is Frederik - which I think is an excellent combination. Especially the unusual spelling (I think you can get away with that for middle names).

cece · 15/12/2018 14:55

Victor

Rose1213 · 15/12/2018 15:04

Our dog is called Rufus (however we chose it as we like people names for dogs so I don't consider it a dog name as such) but pretty much everyone has nicknamed him Doofus. He is very rarely called his actual name. I'd just be aware of that as it's surprised me how many people do it.. though hopefully they wouldn't do it to a human... Blush

daisypond · 15/12/2018 16:24

Rufus Fox _this is by far my favourite. It would mean something like red fox, though - are you OK with that? I really like Rufus - it's a name for all ages. I'm not keen on the others. Ludovic might be OK and Ludo for short.

startingafresh1 · 15/12/2018 16:35

What is it with all these names that are so commonly used for dogs?

I know four gods called Rex, 3 called Ludo.

Nice names, but doggy IMO.

startingafresh1 · 15/12/2018 16:35

Oops dogs not gods!
