Thoughts on the name Atlas?

OP posts:

DPotter · 08/12/2018 19:02

A resounding No from me

KatherinaMinola · 08/12/2018 19:04

We then ran into an Atlas at a baby group.

That must've hurt.

JudasPrudy · 08/12/2018 19:04

It is not a name.

abcriskringle · 08/12/2018 19:05

Love! Everyone mn hates it though- I've posted about it before.

KismetHardie · 08/12/2018 20:32

It is absolutely a name in the same way that Achilles, Diana, Hector etc are names. Atlas the type of book is named after Atlas the (legendary) figure, not the other way around.

SardineJam · 08/12/2018 20:36

I think it's nice actually

Sophronia · 08/12/2018 20:42

I really like it, but it is a bit out there.

peachypetite · 08/12/2018 20:42
Confused
Topseyt · 08/12/2018 20:56

Horrible. Sorry.

Is your child going to carry the world on his head/shoulders?

MissMalice · 08/12/2018 20:57

I like the name but wouldn’t burden a child with it.

HappyGoLuckyGo · 08/12/2018 23:31

I got Atlas suggested as an alternative to a name I mentioned on here! You can’t win, OP. I personally don’t like it- the “tl” doesn’t do much for me.

wildewillow · 09/12/2018 09:20

I love it! It's my sons middle name. Atlas was a Greek Titan celestial god !

Fantastiqueangel · 09/12/2018 09:22

Remember it's not your name. Think about what the person might like, not you.

PatricksRum · 09/12/2018 09:26

Love it! I'm gonna add it to my list of names.

Olivecake · 09/12/2018 09:27

I love it and the story behind it. considering it for a middle name as I’m not sure we’re quite brave enough for a first name.

I think with Greek god type names they have to really suit the person, I know a man named Zeus and he is so handsome and cool that he really pulls it off.

JustMarriedAndLovingIt · 09/12/2018 09:33

Dictionary?

Dic for short?

TheCraicDealer · 09/12/2018 10:08

I actually really like it, but it's so unusual that it would be middle name territory for me. I think the comments here give an indication of some of the jokes you'd be hearing for the next 40 years.

Kirsty Allsopp has a son called Bay Atlas because he was an absolute bruiser at birth. You might think Bay is the less offensive of the two, but Kirsty obvs didn't see the whole "Bae" thing coming.

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 09/12/2018 10:10

It’s a bone in the spine. I don’t like it, sorry

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 09/12/2018 10:16

I prefer Aslan and that's pushing it as it's the lions name from the lion the witch and the wardrobe!

Autumnsunrise · 09/12/2018 10:19

It's a bit old fashioned. Why not call him Satnav?

Pieceofpurplesky · 09/12/2018 10:22

Imagine the scenario - "fo and get the Atlas' and several kids will try to pick him up

stellarfox · 09/12/2018 15:06

Sorry I really don’t like it! What about Atticus? That seems a little more usable but still very out there

EdWinchester · 09/12/2018 15:11

Hilarious.

MollyHuaCha · 09/12/2018 15:23

Pretty dreadful.

BasilFaulty · 09/12/2018 16:10
