Can you help me find a Scottish name that I like?

DH is Scottish (I am not) and we live in Scotland. I chose DD's name (had my heart set on it) and didn't really let DH have an input, however I promised DH if we ever had a son, he could chose the name. We found out we are indeed having a son and now DH is thinking of names. I need help to find Scottish boys names I actually like. Names that aren't to my personal taste are:

Angus
Douglas
Fergus
Seamus
Duncan
Ian
Alastair

And names such as that. I am definitely open to Gaelic names, DH is adamant he wants a Scottish name which is fine by me. There's lots of girls names that I like but I can't think of many boys names! I suggested Jamie but he doesn't like it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@SoupDragon Angus, Douglas, Fergus, Duncan Grin I honestly don't like them (I don't mean to offend anyone). There's also a Gaelic name beginning with C but I can't spell it Blush

Sorry I keep thinking of more!

Hohocabbage · 02/12/2018 10:39

I thought it was your dh who was picking? Are you trying to give him a list of approved names to pick from?
There’s a list on the internet of what all Scottish babies born last year were called - just make sure you don’t go to uk list. Would give you an idea of what people are actually using rather than an episode of Take the High Road!
I teach and certainly meet a fair number of Ruaridhs (various spellings) the odd Hamish and Fergus, Andrews and Callums. Lewis is popular.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 02/12/2018 10:41

The Big Boy Cousins in Katie Morag are Hector, Archie, Jamie, Dougal and Murdo Iain :)

(Am I the only one thinking that if your dh really had no input - not even a veto - in your dd's name, you should just suck up his choice this time round?)

ElusiveButterfly · 02/12/2018 10:42

@Hohocabbage it is DH who'll get the final say but I'm trying to suggest things so I don't end up with a name I detest Grin

NameChange30 · 02/12/2018 10:42

What's your DD called? When you chose her name did your DH a actually dislike it, or was it just not his preferred choice?

Shadow1234 · 02/12/2018 10:43

Finlay
Murray
Logan
Lewis
Harris
Cameron

ElusiveButterfly · 02/12/2018 10:44

@NameChange30 it wasn't one he actively disliked, just wouldn't have picked it himself Smile

What is it about the names you 'detest' ?Because if it's the entire category of Scottish boys names it's going to be a tough compromise.

Are there any you've heard so far that are acceptable?

Murray
Euan
