I'm wondering why it's not more popular?

I like Samantha. It was very common when I was younger, but not so much now. Most Samantha's I've known have been outgoing and very sociable and I think the name reflects that.

It does remind me of the sex-mad, self-centred one from sex and the city though. Although I think that's an age thing more than anything else.

One of the most unattractive names ever, sorry. Also, it seems to be pronounced Smamfer by it's owners in my neck of the woods.
Amanda is much more up market imo.

Succul · 29/11/2018 13:59

Oh god Amanda is really not more upmarket! The power of the different regions!

Minniemagoo · 29/11/2018 14:04

Similar to Marcipex it is one of the names that is locally over pronounced and comes across as 'hamantah' here so even though Dh liked it and I loved the diminutives esp Sammy we didn't use it.

very 70s/80s, I was at school with lots of them.

LostwithSawyer · 29/11/2018 16:59

Dated and boring. Nn Sammy is awful.

Winterwonderland12 · 29/11/2018 17:01

Love Samantha! Nickname Sam. So refreshing after all the cutesy Evies, Ellies and Izzys!

OutPinked · 30/11/2018 11:22

Not nice and always gets shortened to Sam or Sammy. I always think if a full name is never used it must be shit.

I really like the name Samantha. It sounds lovely, is fresh and crisp, and exudes femininity. Sam and Sammy are gorgeous abbreviations too.

Love it. Its dd2s middle name

Very dated and definitely not classic.

Not keen it's sounds quite dated

Pinkypink · 22/03/2020 16:50

I find it dated. Agree with pp that Sammy is cute.
Tabitha has a similar feel and is prob considered more retro than dated. But to me it sounds like a name you give a cat
