I'm wondering why it's not more popular?

Its fine, very 90's but a nice name like Sarah x

Bananalanacake · 27/11/2018 20:16

beautiful, but mine has the german pronounciation of SamanTa, though it is spelt the usual way.

DramaAlpaca · 27/11/2018 20:23

Hmm. It's OK. It's quite dated, to me It's a 70s name as the ones I know are from that era. It's certainly not a classic name as someone said upthread. I think it goes with the likes of Amanda, Angela & Deborah.

esesme · 27/11/2018 20:43

I had a cat called Samantha, we used to call her Sammy, she was a very lovely cat....hope that helps

MikeUniformMike · 27/11/2018 21:01

It's fine, and I also like Amanda.
A nice change from the Olivias, Amelias, Avas, Evies etc

loveshinealight · 27/11/2018 21:18

Oh please go for it. It is lovely and as others have said, it makes a refreshing change from Ava, Eva and Isla!

greendale17 · 27/11/2018 21:19

Dated and right up there with Lisa, Donna and Tracey

Ruddle91 · 27/11/2018 21:23

I'm in my 20s. I know a few Samantha's my age or younger. I don't know anyone under 45 called Tracey though! I do know one Sharon in their 30s.

TroysMammy · 27/11/2018 21:25

We had a tortoise in 1973 and named her Samantha. She's still going strong.

My sister's friend called her daughter Samantha knowing fully well the name of our much loved tortoise. Her daughter wasn't named after the tortoise, she just loved the name.

CloudPop · 27/11/2018 21:39

I love it. Bring it back

DontCallMeCharlotte · 27/11/2018 21:43

Sam's mates would be Pam, Michelle, Debbie, Jo and Sharon

You forgot Karen and Sandra!

(Not sure about Pam - too old I'd have thought?).

Samantha is very sweet. Don't like Sam for a girl.

Novasglow · 27/11/2018 21:50

My sister's name, paired with Alexandra as a middle name. I think it's lovely :)

Stickmanslittleleaf · 27/11/2018 22:07

I like it, she'll never have to spell her name and there are lots of nicknames. I named my 1yr old after his dad which is another 'classic' name but has lots of nicknames. Think Robert, Rob, Robbie, Bobbie, Bert, Bertie. All of which are natural and can be used and interchanged. She probably won't be in a class full of them these days but it won't be a hinderance for her as people will generally know the name when she says it.

ZebraKid71 · 27/11/2018 23:01

It's an 80s name to me, I know loads in their 30s.

But I do like it, and I don't know a single Samantha under the age of 18.

Sophronia · 28/11/2018 00:08

I know a 5 year old Samantha.

Beeziekn33ze · 28/11/2018 01:18

Samantha is lovely. It was Grace Kelly's name in the 1956 film High Society. She was Tracy Samantha which seems an odd combination.

Polkasq · 28/11/2018 01:24

I don't really like it, it's quite bland and reminds me of SamCam.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 28/11/2018 04:59

she'll never have to spell her name

You'd think wouldn't you, as there's only one way to spell it, but in my experience yep she'll be asked how shes spelling samantha.

But yep a bit dated, and i don't partically like it. But i'm biased.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 28/11/2018 05:02

Oddly i get why people say tracy and sharon.... i didnt go to school with a single one. Didnt meet a donna until i was 22 and she was a lot younger than me.

Lots of mary's claire's amanda's catherine's and Katy's though

Cherry321 · 28/11/2018 05:05

Can't believe no one has mentioned sex and the city!

Samantha's friends are clearly Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte Grin

Molly333 · 28/11/2018 06:04

My name is that and I've enjoyed being called Sam by friends and Samantha when more professionalism wanted . All in all I think it's pretty for a girl and I'd like to think I'm a good fun person so not sure if that helps

stellarfox · 28/11/2018 21:10

Really dated! I find it such an unattractive name

TatianaLarina · 29/11/2018 09:52

all mg with Donna, Joanne, Tracey etc it's not quite ripe for a revival

Sam's mates would be Pam, Michelle, Debbie, Jo and Sharon

Yy. Not forgetting Jackie, Cheryl and Kelly.

FellSwoop · 29/11/2018 10:18

I love Samantha! Well overdue a revival!
Also love Amanda, I know a lovely, bright 5yo Amanda.

nocluenoidea · 29/11/2018 10:23

I know SO many Samanthas, but I was born in the 80s. It doesn't 'sound' dated, so it's very surprising it's now only 427th in the name charts. Maybe due a revival, though I doubt it will happen any time soon because new Mums now are likely to be of the age where they grew up around Samanthas and therefore consider it dated
