Is Queenie a usable name? Is it more middle name material or do you think it's bad in general? Hmm

Adrian Mole, No.

FlyingMonkeys · 26/11/2018 22:37

Do you like 20's inspired names in general OP? Clara, Evelyn, Nora.

Xiaoxiong · 26/11/2018 22:40

I like it, but I've only encountered it as a character in Patrick O'Brien's Master & Commander series, set in the early 19th century, and it seems a lovely name for a woman in that context! I had no idea it had all these other connotations though!

Dmt80 · 26/11/2018 22:42

I first thought of Margi Clark's character in Making Out.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 26/11/2018 22:43

Lovely, unusual name, especially if you're a bit of a bohemian.

eggncress · 26/11/2018 22:43

Dogs name

CherryValance · 26/11/2018 22:44

I love it, and would have used it as a nickname if I'd ever had an Elizabeth. However, I wouldn't have used it as a birth certificate name. Works as a nickname for Elizabeth and Victoria, and if you go down the queen consort route also Caroline, Anne, Mary, Charlotte, Adelaide etc

okeydokeygirl · 26/11/2018 22:48

Agree with CherryValance. I would not use it as a formal name and would give Elizabeth or Victoria and then use Queenie as a nickname.

hamburgers · 26/11/2018 22:53

Bad in general.

Seth · 26/11/2018 22:58

I see where you are coming from but just fast forward to primary school register and I just can't imagine it. Lily 'yes miss' , Lottie 'yes miss' Queenie ?! I'm not saying names have to be conventional (and samey) but I'm
Just not sure about that and how your child might feel when she's older. Do you have any others that you like?

Honeybee79 · 26/11/2018 23:05

No. Just no.

MsTSwift · 26/11/2018 23:13

I have a careful thoughtful 12 year old we had some more way out names on our list so glad we didn’t use them she would them.

Would you yourself be comfortable being called Queenie?

LordPickle · 26/11/2018 23:20

Whaaaaaaat? Please do not name your child Queenie. It's awful.

Trampire · 26/11/2018 23:25

I know a 15 year old Queenie.

I did a big eye roll when she was named as a baby but now it just suits her. She's def the only one in the school though.

Pieceofpurplesky · 26/11/2018 23:28

I know a Queenie, sister of Duchess. Both traveller children. Very cute names for very cute children (both under 5)

SuperLambBananas · 26/11/2018 23:34

If I was called Duchess and my sister was called Queenie I think I'd develop a bit of a complex about that...

Runnynosehunny · 26/11/2018 23:37

I like it but I have a soft spot for anything related to the old time East End.

Pieceofpurplesky · 26/11/2018 23:51

I am sure they will super.

Decanter · 27/11/2018 00:04

I love it OP.

See this thread and my response from a few years back...

Tightlippedmama · 27/11/2018 00:05

I have a soft spot for it as it was my beloved grandmother’s childhood NN, because she was the eldest of a tribe of girl cousins. Her real name was Frances. However, by the time she was an adult, Queenie had become ‘Q’ and that’s what is on her gravestone.

I wish I’d given my daughter ‘Q’ as a middle ‘name’ in honour of a woman who was as far from the image given by PP upthread as you could get.

TimeToRevolutionize · 27/11/2018 07:11

Please don't...

MsTSwift · 27/11/2018 07:45

I adored my grandmother but she had hideous first names she herself detested she would turn in her grave if any of us used them!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 27/11/2018 07:46

I can't take half of these threads seriously anymore.

Queenie FFS. Fine for a cat.

Branleuse · 27/11/2018 07:47

I love it. Ive always loved it

HellenaHandbasket · 27/11/2018 08:14

My Granny was known as Bunty, I actually quite like it
