My apologies but my first thought was Jeffie. I do think Effie invites teasing a bit, sorry. Although to some extent kids will always find something to tease about.

PleaseStickBaby · 27/11/2018 15:45

What in the lord is Jeffie?! 😂

I've certainly heard stranger names at school...

My Effie has never been picked on, I’m a teacher and trust me, kids are a lot more accepting of different or unusual names than adults. They are also a darn sight kinder and less childish than a lot of adults on this thread.

My DD s first name presented similar difficulties with pairing with a middle name. In the end we gave her two middle names and it really improved the flow.

Elisabethh · 27/11/2018 18:29

I’m an Elisabeth and been known as Effy since forever and never had any teasing. I love it but am grateful to have Elisabeth as a full name for more professional settings

Elisabethh · 27/11/2018 18:29

And also I really love Effie Victoria or Effie Valentina

PleaseStickBaby · 27/11/2018 18:30

Thank you Cbeebies ❤️

I don't think these days children pick on names in the same way (unless there's obvious willy or bum joke from a name!).

You can pick a perfectly 'normal' name and then a dodgy character in Eastenders with that name, and it becomes a thing to pick on a child about.

It is very nickname-y though, I would assume it was short for something else if I met an adult who introduced herself as Effie.

Have you thought about other names that shorten to Effie other than Elizabeth if you really don't like Elizabeth?

Cbeebiesrehab · 27/11/2018 22:35

My Effie is Evelyn on her birth certificate.

Beeziekn33ze · 28/11/2018 01:39

I knew an elderly Irish Effie whose full name was Frances.
Effie Rose
Effie Belle

Beeziekn33ze · 28/11/2018 01:41

Evelyn is a lovely name. Do you say Evelyn or Eevelyn? I've heard both.

FlyingMonkeys · 28/11/2018 01:54

Effie Elaine, Effie Eleanor, Effie Annamarie

nocluenoidea · 28/11/2018 03:20

I LOVE the name Effie but DH wouldn't let me use it.

I'd go for a one syllable name like Rose. I really don't think classic names like Victoria as pp have suggested go at all

3in4years · 28/11/2018 06:13

You can't have Effie Kate.
It sounds like defecate.

Fantata · 28/11/2018 06:25

Thread's moved on a bit now but for the record, I thought Jeffie because of the phrase "Effing and jeffing" meaning swearing heavily - like effing and blinding.

blueskiesandforests · 28/11/2018 06:32

There are a fair few middle aged Effies where I live - short for Elfreda usually, though one is short for Elfrun...

There's an Elvie in DS's class which isn't short for anything in that case.

I know that isn't what your asking but don't think Effie works on its own in English, it sounds too much like a baby swearing...

PleaseStickBaby · 28/11/2018 06:51

I've already said the defecate thing, keep up!

I don't mind Evelyn and it's a family name but to me, it's an old lady name, so would be far more embarrassing for a teen to introduce herself as that. But that's only because I have an elderly relative with that name.

Beeze Ev-Lyn :)

Please it’s a family name for us too :) but yes it’s definitely quite an old fashioned name, although quite popular now. I like that although her bc name is relatively common she’s not another Evie. Gives her the best of both worlds I think.

Treaclepie19 · 30/11/2018 19:18

Olivia?
Not my cup of tea normally but it's the first thing I thought.
Effie is lovely.

MyCatIsAFiend · 30/11/2018 19:29

Effie Madeleine
Effie Margaret
Effie Rosamund
Effie Louisa

Love the earlier suggestion of Effie Susannah!

It needs a longer name beginning with a fairly hard consonant, in my opinion.
