Just looking for opinions on the name Jenson?
Older brother called Noah.
Narrowed the choice down to Jenson or Rupert now.
Girls name is set at Matilda Rose! Found girls names so much easier.

Patrick?

manufan1982 · 25/11/2018 17:37

Sebastian?

Mishappening · 25/11/2018 17:38

Not Jenson.

And the name does not need to "complement" his brother's name. He will be an individual in his own right; and for the vast bulk of his life will not be anywhere near his brother.

daisypond · 25/11/2018 17:38

Luke, Saul, Seth, Eli aren't easily shortened and would "go" with Noah, I think. James (anglicised form of Jacob) and John go as well, I think - New Testament biblical as opposed to Old Testament.

mummyofboys30 · 25/11/2018 17:39

Have a cousin Henry.
I love Joseph but worried about the shortening to Joe or Joey.
I always work in a role where I meet alot of people so past clients can put me off names!

Yea I was being sarcastic....

MikeUniformMike · 25/11/2018 17:56

Jenson will be Jens.

Shadow1234 · 25/11/2018 19:09

I love the name Jensen (spelt this way), and I first thought of Jensen Ackles (who is gorgeous btw). I think you will find it is widely used as a first name, so please dont be put off by people saying it's a surname. There are lots of surnames that are used nowadays as first names.

vandrew4 · 25/11/2018 19:18

sorry, but I think Jenson is really scroaty

mummypug · 25/11/2018 19:27

Theo? Lucas?

mummyofboys30 · 25/11/2018 19:29

We have cousins with those names unfortunately.

What about other biblical names to match Noah?

Isaac
Reuben
Jacob
Elias
Elijah
Daniel
Joseph

Jacob was another name I liked when pregnant with Noah but someone said it didn't have a nice meaning?
And recently fell in love with Joseph but worried about it being shortened to Joe or Joey. I prefer to use full names and not have nicknames.

I have a lovely 7 year old Rufus! It's not easily shortened. And it's not unusual, just not common.

bookswinebookswine · 25/11/2018 21:06

I love
Rupert

purple8pig · 25/11/2018 21:11

Rupert is lovely, not a fan of jenson at all sorry

vandrew4 · 26/11/2018 07:17

I have a Joseph and he never gets called Joey. occassionally Joe.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 26/11/2018 07:20

Jenson and Rupert are strange choices, tbh. They're at opposite ends of a spectrum. Neither of them go at all with Noah. If I had to pick one of the two it would be Rupert, but I wouldn't be keen.

spacefighter · 26/11/2018 07:21

I like Jenson, Noah and Jenson sounds nice. I know a couple of Jensons. If you like a name pick it, doesn't matter what no one else thinks.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 26/11/2018 07:25

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_(name)
Some of those meanings could be given a positive spin. Anyway, meanings don't stop parents calling their daughters Claudia, or Rebecca, and why should they - they are lovely names. Jacob's lovely and goes well with Noah (and while I agree the brothers will be individuals in their own right, their first couple of decades will involve a lot of being named in the same breath).

Joseph is lovely too, and I wouldn't let shortenings put you off. One of my dc has a name with a very common shortening. We never use it. One or two others do, but the affectionate shortening he gets from schoolmates is another one entirely (a neologism, in fact). People will make up all sorts of shortenings/nicknames, whatever you call him. You can't really control that. If you introduce him as Joseph and call him Joseph then most fairly switched-on people will follow suit.

How about something unshortenable, as in daisypond's suggestions?

Notatallobvious · 26/11/2018 07:31

Not a fan of either...jenson has become quite popular and like other PPs have said Rupert is a bit wet. How about something more timeless like Alex? Never overly common and I don't hear of many these days.

NicePieceOfPlaid · 26/11/2018 07:45

It's awful. Really awful. Up there with Jaydon.

Thank you very much for your lovely detailed response. I really appreciate it. I do love Jacob and feel as I was talked out of it I would regret allowing those people to win and not ever using it!
Do you think Jacob Joseph would be too much as a name? As wondered if I could somehow incorporate the two.
Noah Harry and Jacob Joseph?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 26/11/2018 10:39

Jacob is nice with Noah, I like Elijah too.

GraceMarks · 26/11/2018 16:08

I honestly think nobody except a bible scholar would dislike the name Jacob because of its "supplanting" meaning. There are all sorts of names that have vaguely unpleasant or stern meanings which still get used, like Mary/Marie/Maria ("bitter"), Rebecca ("noose" or "snare") and Daniel ("God is my judge").

And Jacob Joseph would be pretty cool imo. He could call himself JJ!
