I love the names
Tabitha
Isadora
Genevieve
Maisie

Mentioned these to my friend and she said I'm cruel lol do you think a girl with these names would be bullied? What kind of girl springs to mind with these names?

Tabitha is the nicest name from your list, I think. The most wearable from baby to adult.

Isadora is a little...much. But has both Izzie and Dora as nickname options.

Genevieve is nice but the French pronunciation is much nicer.

Maisie is really twee and is the odd one out for that reason. I like it the least of the four names.

None of them make me think “fucking hell that’s bad”.

HollowTalk · 22/11/2018 21:48

I think Tabitha is the only one I wouldn't use there - bit like a tabby cat.

SingingSands · 22/11/2018 21:49

I know girls/women with all those names. I like them all.
Also know a dog called Maisie. She’s lovely Grin

Rachelover40 · 22/11/2018 21:52

I like Genevieve best - Gen. I agree the French pronunciation is nicest but no-one will use that.

Haworthia · 22/11/2018 21:52

They’re all perfectly lovely names. Isadora is a bit too frilly for my taste, I suppose.

Maisie was my grandmother’s name so it doesn’t sound twee to me. She was a tough Cockney woman Grin

formerbabe · 22/11/2018 21:54

The only one I dislike is Isadora. The rest are fine.

DramaAlpaca · 22/11/2018 21:54

I wouldn't use Tabitha because it's a cat's name to me, and I wouldn't use Maisie because it's cutesy & twee, but the other two are fine.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/11/2018 21:57

What is the alternative prononciation of Genevieve then? I only know it as a French name; jun-nav-yev (sorry for execrable phonetics)

Moodycoo · 22/11/2018 21:57

Tabitha is one of my daughters middle names and my friends daughters name - I love it!

MadameJosephine · 22/11/2018 21:58

I like the first three but Maisie is totally different and not my cup of tea at all.

Genevieve was on our list for DD but we didn’t use it because we couldn’t agree how to pronounce it. I would have used the anglicised version as I think it sounds a bit pretentious to use the French one if you’re not French (we are not). We went for Jennifer instead

OneTwistedAngel · 22/11/2018 21:58

Tabitha is prob at my favourite as well but guessing tabby would result in teasing. I seem to like either quirky names or frilly names 🤣 x

LadyMonicaBaddingham

The Other version is pronounced Jen-a-veev

MadameJosephine · 22/11/2018 22:01

How about Emmeline or Annalise? They were also on my list and sound like the kind of name you would like

OneTwistedAngel · 22/11/2018 22:04

I would pronounce Genevieve
Jeh-neh-veev

They'd be lovely names for a basket of kittens Smile

I think they're all ok... but I wonder if they will suit adults as well as cute little girls? My friend's called her dd Maisie and I always wonder how she'll feel about her name when she's 18 and introducing herself to some hot boy in a club Grin

BertieBotts · 22/11/2018 22:19

I really don't like tabitha as it is a cat's name to me. I like cats very much but it would be like calling a baby fido. (Felix is borderline because I've known a couple of real life Felixes...)

The others are fine. I've known a Geniveve who was my age and went by Geni (Jenny) and a little one aged six who goes by Evie. Maisie and Isadora are defo granny chic but that's OK as names do follow cycles like that.

I think Geniveve is my favourite though.

ZebraKid71 · 22/11/2018 22:19

I think maisie is to cutsie but I absolutely love the others! Tabitha and Genevieve are currently on my short list.

Messalena · 22/11/2018 22:19

I like the first three, especially Tabitha and Genevieve, but not keen on Maisie. I meet lots of little Maisies and I find it a bit cutesy.

Fave I think is Genevieve!

Messalena · 22/11/2018 22:20

Oh and I love Tabby as a nickname for Tabitha! I don’t see it as especially teasable.

CloserIAm2Fine · 22/11/2018 22:20

Tabitha and Isadora are lovely and I quite like Maisie

sue51 · 22/11/2018 22:23

Not keen on Maisie, sounds like a parlour maid in Edwardian England. Isadora is a beautiful name.

Singlenotsingle · 22/11/2018 22:23

In dgs class there's a Millie and a Maisie. I also know a Marcey, so Maisie and it's variations are quite popular.

Shadow1234 · 22/11/2018 22:26

I dont think you are cruel. Your friend just didnt have the same taste in names as you. (and its your baby, so your choice).
I really love Genevieve - my favourite on your list
Tabitha isnt to my taste
Isadora is nice (Izzy for short)
Maisie - ok name

Justlikedevon · 22/11/2018 22:27

Not a huge fan of Maisie, taught loads of maisies, macys, maicies.

Don't mind Genevieve though am a pretentious fan of the French pronunciation.
I know a beautiful teenage isadora. Dora to family, iz to friends.
Love Tabitha.

SemperIdem · 22/11/2018 22:44

I do agree that you’d never get anyone to use the French prn of Genevieve in the UK, unless you happen to actually be French.

Similarly I prefer the Germanic pronunciation of the very popular Ottilie. Mostly because it doesn’t sound like “utterly”.
