I love the names
Tabitha
Isadora
Genevieve
Maisie

Mentioned these to my friend and she said I'm cruel lol do you think a girl with these names would be bullied? What kind of girl springs to mind with these names?

My fav is Maisie
Not a fan of the others

Peachbubble · 23/11/2018 06:52

Tabitha is my favourite name. Genevieve is nice, but you will get a lot of misspellings/pronunciations. I like Isadora, but think it'll become Izzy, along with the multitude of Isabel/Isabellas. I know quite a few Maisies, but it's not a name I like.

Carragheen · 23/11/2018 06:58

But Tabitha is a pretty common name for female humans — it’s no more a ‘cat’s name’ than Felix, which is also quite common. And I know of local dogs around here called Poppy, Toby, Rufus, and Belle, which are certainly at least as human as canine names.

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 23/11/2018 06:59

I once had a cat named Tabitha - she was named after a human! Grin

SoyDora · 23/11/2018 07:00

I don’t like Maisie at all but the others are fine... nice names.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/11/2018 07:07

I love Tabitha. Genevieve is pretty too. Can't stand Isadora - reminds me of that annoying kids programme from years ago!

Don't care for Maisie.

Paddingtonthebear · 23/11/2018 07:22

I work in a child-related field and we have all of those names on our registers at least once, the children are between baby age up to 10 years old. Only one Isadora.

Also outside of work know two adult Genevieve’s, an 18 year old Maisie, a Tabitha in her thirties plus a friends dog is a called Tabitha.

Your friend is being a bit weird. None of these names are unusual in my opinion! It would be more unusual these days to call a child Louise, Clare or Sarah I reckon!

Winterwonderland12 · 23/11/2018 07:23

The only potential cruel name is Maisie.
Because it's cutesy and comical (Maisie Mouse).

The others aren't cruel!

Davidlives · 23/11/2018 07:32

They’re all ok. I was at school with a Genevieve and whilst it’s a bit of a mouthful it certainly wasn’t bully worthy. She used to get called Geni but Evie is a nice nickname too.
Not keen on isadora.
Prefer Maisy with a y
Tabitha is a bit cat like but not unusable

llangennith · 23/11/2018 07:34

All perfectly acceptable names. I don't know any child or adult named Genevieve but the others are all regular but unusual names.

SuchAToDo · 23/11/2018 07:37

Love Genevieve, and you could have cute nicknames like Gen, Genny, Ginny, Eve, Evie..Grin

Icklepup · 23/11/2018 14:45

I like Genevieve and Maisie

ZebraKid71 · 23/11/2018 15:23

I don't get the cat thing with Tabitha - I understand the association but I have four friends actually named Cat and that is never an issue!

Most animals these days have human names, there are dogs on my street named Poppy, Bella, Kevin, Graham and Molly so I'm not sure why everyone has an issue with Tabitha.

SleepingStandingUp · 23/11/2018 15:27

They're perfectly lovely names, just not to her choice.

I know a Tabitha and two Maisies, I think I know a Genevieve (she shortens but it's Gen not Jen I always assumed)

Isadora is one I wouldn't use cos she's a witch from kids TV when I was young

Pimpernell · 23/11/2018 15:28

I'm not madly keen on Maisie but the none of those names would be a cruel burden for a child to carry! I clicked expecting something along the lines of Egbertina or Wynflaed.

SnowyPaws5 · 23/11/2018 15:34

Tabitha, Isadora and Genevieve could be seen as posh try-hard. Your friend probably thought this. A child with this name wouldn't blend in with all the Lilys, Avas, Ellies etc. Your friend probably likes more popular names.

My favourite from your list is Genevieve. Classic.

daisypond · 23/11/2018 19:01

Your names are fine. I'm not keen on Maisie because it seems too cutesy. Isadora is on the posh/frilly side, but it's fine as well. Genevieve is on the rise, I think. I quite like it. Tabitha is my preferred name out of your list - it has a bit of a worthy servant vibe about it, though - a bit like Martha.

toomanyeastereggsurghh · 23/11/2018 19:12

None of these names would be “cruel”!!
Not keen on Isadora and Maisie is a bit too cutesy for me (also sounds like a cow) but they’re perfectly fine names.
Genevieve is lovely with Gen or Jenny/Jenna for short.
Tabitha is my favourite though. I know a couple and they get called Tabs or Tabby. No bullying

MarshaBradyo · 23/11/2018 19:14

I don’t love them but definitely not cruel

helpingvsdoinghomework · 23/11/2018 23:46

My daughter has girls in her class with all your suggested names. They are beautiful x

MikeUniformMike · 24/11/2018 14:42

Tabitha is more popular than you think.
Maisie is ok.
Don't like Isadora or Genevieve.

Astronica · 25/11/2018 09:51

Nothing remotely cruel in any of those names. What an odd comment by your friend! All good names, and I particularly like Genevieve and Tabitha.

Tabitha98 · 25/11/2018 11:15

I love the name Isadora, as I have a friend with a beautiful and very friendly girl called that. All her friends call her Issi and to family she’s Dora. I’m probably biased about Tabitha 😂, and I hate the name Maisie as all the Maisie’s I meet are either my enemies or very frilly. I like Genevieve, but it’s very French!

User10fuckingmillion · 25/11/2018 11:26

I don’t understand why Maisie is cutesy Confused

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 25/11/2018 11:27

I like all of those names. Cruel is anything double-barrelled with crazy spelling!
