Wanted, a great name for a boy

This is driving me to distraction.
Induction booked for Monday, and we can’t agree on a name for our boy. We already have Ivy and Fred who are very excited about meeting their baby brother and want to call him George Leopard Leo Grin

DP wants Jack, children love George and I like Maxim or Albert. Any suggestions?

Middle names likely to be Joseph Graham.

Does DP realise just how popular Jack is? It has been top 5 for twenty years, ten of them at number one. There are adult Jacks born in the nineties who are now having their own kids. It is so, so popular and even if there aren’t any others in your DS’s class at school he will encounter loads in the workplace.

Can he articulate what it is he likes about Jack?

What about Micah (pronounced my-ka) as in the professional footballer

Lonnie
Ezra
Tommy
Troy
Rudy
Rocco
Mikey
Dexter
Sonny

shadow and thanks - we’re on the same page! He likes the simplicity and long lasting popularity of Jack. Feels it’s a good, solid name that will never go out of fashion, and is not bothered at all that are MANY Jacks around.

I do like name Jack, but I don’t utterly love it. The other children’s names we both love and we didn’t have any issues agreeing on those.

This time around it’s driving me mad, finding a name we both love.

What about Jesse ?

mummypug · 21/11/2018 23:36

Zac / Zack? Like jack but not so popular 😊

Thetigerwhocameto · 21/11/2018 23:36

Personally a fan of the idea of waiting til shortly after you have pushed the brute (I mean baby) out... surely at that point he will just bow down to whatever you want 🙊🙊

I stupidly agreed to DH’s girls name or my boys name on the way to the hospital for a check up (ended up with an emergency c section that day) and the little one was a girl🙄 (I do adore her name now as it is her name!) next choice is mine 😂😂

Tightlippedmama · 22/11/2018 12:50

What about John?

Strong. Comparatively unusual these days.

Not at all ‘wanky East London’

Can be shortened to Jack but Johnny is a sound NN ( and, in my experience, whilst you are getting used to calling him by his name, the NN that maybe one parent had thought would be used, doesn’t stick.)

Astronica · 22/11/2018 13:18

Ivy, Fred and

Wilf
Monty
Gilbert
Lex
Rafe
Kip

And I think George, Jack and Maxim are all great.

MawkishTwaddle · 22/11/2018 13:23

John has become cool again, and the diminutive of it is Jack.

Twatforahat · 22/11/2018 13:24

I live in 'wanky East London' and I've never met a Rupert. It's more 'posho West London'.

I have a Rufus. Of your choices I like George best, Jack the least.

Icypop · 22/11/2018 13:32

As lovely as george is you just can't have brother's called fred and George! Harry potter is too popular for that! Id go for Joseph as the first name. Or john goes well with your other childrens names.

lozengeoflove · 22/11/2018 14:43

I do love John and it was one of my suggestions, but again, no. That’s too much of an old man name Hmm

lozengeoflove · 22/11/2018 14:44

Again, lots of lovely suggestions. Can’t use any.

And I hear you about Harry Potter, but not too bothered about it. Our Fred is often Freddie and lots of other nicknames.

Tightlippedmama · 22/11/2018 14:55

For goodness sake! And Fred isn’t? (And is a fab name)

John is where his choice of Jack comes from!

I’m feeling your pain OP.

Doubt they’ll pass muster but as the father of your children likes short names, I offer the two from our list that we didn’t use.

Hugh
Guy

Probably too ‘wanky Some Compass Point in London.’

Stanley (Stan)
Sidney (Sid)
Percy
Eric
Geoffrey (Geoff)
Kenneth (Ken)

Baby Geoff! What’s not to love?

The Fred I knew had a brother called Ivan.

Tightlippedmama · 22/11/2018 14:56

Ivy and Ivan... maybe not.

lozengeoflove · 22/11/2018 15:51

tight - exactly!! It drives me mad! I love most of your suggestions, especially Eric, Stanley and Sid. All have already been turned down Confused

Shadow1234 · 22/11/2018 15:56

What about Jimmy or Reggie?

Shadow1234 · 22/11/2018 15:58

Or Jed?

Shadow1234 · 22/11/2018 15:58

Luke or Jake?

Shadow1234 · 22/11/2018 15:59

Jax?

Shadow1234 · 22/11/2018 16:00

Billy?

Shadow1234 · 22/11/2018 16:01

Ernie?

SPR1107 · 22/11/2018 16:02

I don't know how likely it is you'll agree on one now. Why don't you choose one from each other's list that you like, and come up with a way to make a fair (or a coin flip) decision between them? Or even get the children to anonymously vote?

It's so hard isn't it. I would go with George 1000 times over though!

Chocolatecake12 · 22/11/2018 16:02

How about Louis? Have really fallen in love with the name recently and Louis Joseph Graham sounds great. Ivy, Fred and Louis seems to go nicely.
