To hyphenate or not? Josy Rita

We have just found out we are having a baby girl and have decided on the name Josy Rita after both our maternal grandmothers.

But we can't decide whether to have Josy (first name) and Rita (middle name) or to go Josy-Rita (first name) with no middle name??

Separate, no hyphen

Hoppinggreen · 20/11/2018 20:42

No hyphen

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 20/11/2018 20:42

Separate; no hyphen.

LEMtheoriginal · 20/11/2018 20:42

Not sure about the spelling of josy it makes me want to say it sounding like cosy.

Creatureofthenight · 20/11/2018 20:42

No hyphen

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 20/11/2018 20:43

I like it with a hyphen but prefer Josie-Rita. Congratulations!

Shadow1234 · 20/11/2018 20:44

No hyphen, but I prefer Josy spelt Josie.

Frlrlrubert · 20/11/2018 20:51

No hyphen for me.

I also prefer 'Josie' (actually I prefer Josephine, but I realise not everyone has my hang ups about 'proper' names for birth certificates).

thejustine · 20/11/2018 20:54

Those questioning the spelling of Josy, its the French spelling. It's after my grandmother and my children will be raised bilingual :)

No hyphen.

Josie Rita.

Josy looks wrong.

Eshergreen · 20/11/2018 21:00

No hyphen.

Nothing wrong with forrin’ names Wink I changed the spelling of DD’s name (Elisabeth, after my grandmother Elizabeth) because it’s more common where we live and I wanted her to have her ‘own’ name, but Josy and Josie are very different. So I say stick with Josy.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 20/11/2018 21:03

In that case I take it back! Leave the spelling as Josy!

hungryhippie · 20/11/2018 21:04

No hyphen

Shadow1234 · 20/11/2018 21:08

Fair comment on the spelling - that makes sense now. (apologies).

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 20/11/2018 21:12

No hyphen

DramaAlpaca · 20/11/2018 21:13

I prefer it without the hyphen.

Haffdonga · 20/11/2018 21:14

Lovely names but only as separate names. Hyphenating spoils them both.

KissingInTheRain · 20/11/2018 21:17

Keep the hyphen and lose the names.

thejustine · 20/11/2018 21:17

@KissingInTheRain bit rude?

Queenofthedrivensnow · 20/11/2018 21:18

Oh I like the French spelling. No hyphen

PearlandRubies194 · 20/11/2018 21:18

I love this name! And definitely separate x

thejustine · 20/11/2018 21:18

@notpushyinterested It's the shortening of Josette, Josy. It's a fairly common French name.

Do not hyphenate. Ruins two nice names.
