Two middle names?

Hiphopopotamous · 20/11/2018 17:53

Our first DC has two middle names (honouring recently deceased close family names from each side) and we are expecting a DD.
I quite like Rose. Struggling with middle name but also with the thought that we should give her two middle names to match older sibling? No one else in the family to name after.

Thoughts please?

Peace or Frieda to commemorate 100 years since the end of WWi?

A significant place or friend/sponsor? We might have gone for Rose Daphne Peace in similar circumstances.

DramaAlpaca · 20/11/2018 17:58

I think two middle names would be nice to match older sibling. I'm coming at this as the person with one middle name who still feels bitter that my sibling has two Grin

With no other family names to use, you've got the freedom to have fun & pick names you really love.

I adore Rose, it's so classy & elegant. And it's an easy one to match with other names.

GemmeFatale · 20/11/2018 17:59

What about your name or middle name as a middle for her? You are her mother, so it would be nice to acknowledge you in her name.

finallychangedmyusername · 20/11/2018 18:12

Personally I would use two middle names again for Rose to match your other DC.

Some random suggestions (I feel that the first middle name needs at least 3 syllables):

Rose Victoria Amy
Rose Jemima Alice
Rose Olivia Sara
Rose Felicity Anna
Rose Evangeline Cara
Rose Alexandra Esme
Rose Christabel Georgia
Rose Louisa Pearl
Rose Natalia Zoe
Rose Eloise Florence

I really like Rose Natalia Zoe. If your DD is due in December, Natalia is a nice link to Christmas. And Zoe means "life".

Your DS need to have the same amount of given names! DM has 2, her brothers have 3; 75 years later she still feel short changed!

My siblings, children and I all have 2 middle names, I rather like it.

Zimbabwebadgers · 20/11/2018 18:21

I only have one middle name and my siblings each have two, I couldn't care less.

Rose Elizabeth May
Rose Davinia Jane
Rose Isabella June
Rose Elora Jean

If first dc has 2 middle names honouring family members I think It would be nice to do the same for dc2. There must be other family members living or passed away?

Hiphopopotamous · 20/11/2018 18:38

My name is very typical "late80s/early90s" so I'd rather not use mine.
DM and MIL have quite awful middle aged to older people's names (and no middle names) and female grandparents have VERY old people names, the sort that haven't come back around!

This is why I'm stuck! DC1 was easy!

It would be eg Rose Norma Doreen 🤢

Your maiden name? Your middle name? Your favourite book character? Your favourite woman in history?

BumbleDevon · 20/11/2018 18:42

Your great grandmothers?

MrBirlingsAwfulWife · 20/11/2018 18:54

Tell us the 2 grandmother and 4 greatgrandmothers names. See if anyone can be creative in adapting to more acceptable versions?

Twatforahat · 20/11/2018 18:58

Norma could work as one.

Rose Elizabeth Grace
Rose Florence Maude
Rose Norma Pearl

MrBirlingsAwfulWife · 20/11/2018 19:02

TBH this why I didn't use family names.
The reality is that parents either only "honour" the people whose names they like or saddle their dc with awful names Hmm

sunshineandshowers21 · 20/11/2018 19:06

both of my boys have one middle name honouring mine and my partner’s brothers, but my little girl has 2 - my sister’s name and we also decided on poppy because she was born on rememberance day.

gingernutrichtea · 20/11/2018 20:24

My husband has 2 middle names 3 if you count confirmation name. We have to give our kids 2 middle names- we have very sensitive families!

gingernutrichtea · 20/11/2018 20:25

Shadow1234 · 20/11/2018 21:29

I know Doreen wasn't a real example, but a friend of mine used Dorina as a middle name to honour a Doreen. Could use Maura to honour a Maureen, Nora to honour a Norma, etc.

GandalfsRing · 21/11/2018 11:13

Rose Eliza Jean

Rose Martha Anne

Rose Daphne Paige

Rose Jennifer Dee

Frenchy36 · 22/11/2018 12:14

I’ve got two middle names
“Eva- Marie”, both after my grandmothers. Eva was my Nan’s middle name though. Not her first. My 3 other siblings have 1 and have never discussed nor mentioned that I have two. But my grandparents were still alive (ones recently passed). Is there a way you could possibly use the name/middle name in a different way. Change it up a bit or shorten a grandparents or your own name. With my middle name “Marie” is actually pronounced “Mau-rie” but I say “Marie as Eva- Marie” sounds to me better and my Nan’s never questioned it.

Lunalula · 22/11/2018 12:31

Go for it. What about one of your or DPS close family members. Named after an uncle or aunt (could change it to masculine or feminine version)

Girl I knew called Georgina-Erica Iris was named after her great grandfather's George and Eric and her middle name was her grandmother's name.
My middle name is same as my aunties (paternal) middle name and grandmother's (maternal) middle name!
My brother has 2 middle names, after great grandfathers.

Hiphopopotamous · 23/11/2018 11:51

Thanks for all your help!

We've had a brainwave for a middle name of "Alice" as it is an anglicised version of DGMs name.
Feel like the family connection is present now.
Any suggestions for:

Rose --- Alice
Or
Rose Alice ---
