Hi I'm just wondering what people's thoughts are of this name? It has really fallen in popularity over the past few years and only 15 born last year which really surprised me. Do you think people are avoiding it due to it being associated with the comedian/ TV show? Does it sound dated? And what nicknames would work? I quite like Mira.

I think it's a lovely name and in a few years nobody will have heard of Miranda Hart. Go for it! Smile

SallyWD · 10/11/2018 10:03

It's a beautiful name. The fact that it isn't popular is a bonus! Your daughter would really stand out. Mira is lovely too.

My mums called Miranda - she's 50 ish - she hates it.

Most people call her Mandy instead and she's only officially known as Miranda

If you like it go for it!

daisypond · 10/11/2018 10:12

I really like it. I think Shakespeare before Miranda Hart.

Polkasq · 10/11/2018 12:22

I really like it.

TheGrassIsGreener3 · 10/11/2018 12:26

Never mind the comedian, it's an awful clunky name (sorry).

lebkuchenlover · 10/11/2018 12:27

Beautiful name!

RedDeadRoach · 10/11/2018 12:27

I think it's pretty. I'd use mirri for short.

sue51 · 10/11/2018 12:30

It's a beautiful name and conjures up the Shakespearean character to me.

DramaAlpaca · 10/11/2018 12:32

I've always loved this beautiful Shakespearean name.

ZebraKid71 · 10/11/2018 12:42

I'm not a fan, I went to school with one who got called randy... Much prefer Amanda.

TatianaLarina · 10/11/2018 12:51

It’s a very dowdy name and I’m not sure why.

Miranda in the Tempest in great.

I think it’s a bit like Margaret.

LarkDescending · 10/11/2018 16:49

I loke Miranda and know a very glamorous one in her 30s. I like the Shakespearean link and find it more interesting than the ubiquitous Matilda.

LarkDescending · 10/11/2018 16:52

*like (obviously)

Flamingosnbears · 10/11/2018 17:26

Good choice, don't worry about the comedian

hungryhippie · 10/11/2018 17:28

I think its a nice name. go for it!

haverhill · 10/11/2018 17:29

I like it. I knew one nicknamed Mira.

ABCFamily · 10/11/2018 17:42

I love the name Miranda, and considered it for our daughter. I've only known one Miranda in real life (I'm guessing she's in her early 30s now). She was smart, and personable, and there was nothing dowdy about her.

RedDwarves · 10/11/2018 19:41

I like Miranda, but hate all potential shortenings, so wouldn't use it.

Polkasq · 10/11/2018 21:17

I like Mimi as nickname, or maybe Andie.

dancingbee · 10/11/2018 21:40

I really like it. Though I do immediately think of Miranda Hart... Not that that will be relevant by the time your DD grows up.

TheOnlyWayIsUpBaby · 10/11/2018 21:43

Love the name! Considered it if we had had a girl and was going to shorten to Merry.

Pemba · 10/11/2018 23:53

I love it too, and the Shakespeare connection makes it interesting.

dalmatianmad · 11/11/2018 00:08

My best friend is called Miranda! She's the loveliest person...

HeronLanyon · 11/11/2018 00:12

Knownone Miranda in her 50s. She doesn’t like it. Think when she was younger it was unpopular. I quite like the name. For some reason it reminds me of Barbara, Wendy, etc.
