bumblebee39 · 02/11/2018 10:18

If*

Elsie Rose gets my vote

TwittleBee · 02/11/2018 10:25

Elsie Rose!

liquidrevolution · 02/11/2018 10:30

I love both. Probably swaying a bit more towards Emmie as I have an Emma Rose.

As a warning Emma Rose is a very popular combination. We have a second middle name before rose which is a personal family name.

Another2day · 02/11/2018 11:17

Rose is a very very popular middle name these days! Is there no family name to honour a family member?

I prefer Elsie or Elise

Glumglowworm · 02/11/2018 11:20

Elsie Rose

Shadow1234 · 02/11/2018 13:26

Elsie by miles - lovely name

MonkeyToucher · 02/11/2018 13:26

Will Emmie be a shortening of something, eg Emmeline? Emmie is a bit cutesy/twee in my opinion. Can’t imagine it on a grown woman who hopes to be taken seriously!

BettyBoo246 · 02/11/2018 13:41

Monkey no not as a nn. And this is dh’s reason why he prefers Elsie Grin I’m abit of the opinion why call them something else on bc if you actually want them to known by something else.. if that makes sense! Plus I’ve not heard anything I like Emmie could be short for?

Elsie Rose

GlasgowWorrier · 02/11/2018 17:10

Elsie, definitely. Emmie is a bit of a non-name and she'll have people asking what it's short for all the time. (Emma? Emily? Emmaline? Ermintrude? Emmethal? Emmerdale? etc)

daisypond · 02/11/2018 17:27

Hm. Emmie is too cutesy for an official name. The only one I know - in her mid-20s - is called Emmeline. On that basis, it has to be Elsie - but I don't like it. It's slightly less cute than Emmie but more dreary.

costacoffeecup · 02/11/2018 17:34

Yeah, Emmie isn't a real name for a grown woman. I would go with Elsie or Emma. You have to give them a shot at having the choice to use a grown up name when they're grown up no matter how cute it is for a baby (and it's very cute.)

costacoffeecup · 02/11/2018 17:35

Rose is my daughter's surname and it drives me mad as everyone assumes it's her middle name because it's so common at the moment. What about Rose as a first name to be a bit different?

I quite like both but prefer Emma or Elspeth with the original options as nicknames.

SuperstarDJ · 02/11/2018 17:52

Elsie Rose

BettyBoo246 · 02/11/2018 18:02

Is it the Emmie spelling though that makes it babyish nicknameyish?
What about Emmy?

Madmarchpear · 02/11/2018 18:07

I prefer Rose as a proper first name. Something-Rose is starting to sound quite unimaginative and definitely overdone. Not quite - Mae (May) or Rae naff, but getting there.

BettyBoo246 · 02/11/2018 18:13

The issue is ds (5) loves the name rose but both I and dh do not (unfortunately) so to make him feel like he’s played a big part init all we said it could be her middle name

No, Emmy/Emmie are both awful.

They’re fine as family pet names (my sister Emily was often called Emmie/Em in the house) but terrible as a full name.

It’s not a name that’s going to serve her well if she wants a professional career.

Emma
Emily
Emmeline -all fine

GoodJanet · 02/11/2018 19:19

Or Emilia

GoodJanet · 02/11/2018 19:19

Emmy sounds babyish and unfinished.

NorthernRunner · 02/11/2018 19:21

I really like Emmy (prefer it spelt with a y) although I can see I’m in the minority.
Elsie is also lovely 😊
