Could this name suit a girl? What is your opinion?

I like it. It's cute yet not cutesy and babyish.

Mum0fteens · 27/10/2018 00:40

I love it for a girl!!!

Unicyclethief · 27/10/2018 00:40

I love traditionally boys names on girls, but Spencer has to be one of the ugliest names I have heard in a long while.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 27/10/2018 00:42

It’s a boys name, very clearly a boys name. She’s spend her whole life defending it and it’d be a pain in the arse

BakedBeans47 · 27/10/2018 00:43

I’ve come across it for a baby girl recently

Not what I’d pick but far from the worst I’ve heard.

DramaAlpaca · 27/10/2018 00:45

It's awful for a boy, but absolutely horrendous for a girl.

RedStarBlueStar · 27/10/2018 00:50

Very American.

I wouldn’t if you’re in the UK.

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 27/10/2018 00:52

No. Why??? Don't do it.

Picknickers · 27/10/2018 00:59

No horrible...and I do know PLL.

tumpymummy · 27/10/2018 01:04

I guess Spencer for a girl is an American name. Doesn't work in the UK- definitely sounds like a boys name. Americans like surnames as first names - Taylor, Kendal, Harper, Morgan.

Reminds me of what my DM used to call a style of vest she wore. Almost certainly that's just my problem though!

Or Spencer Tracey ... we once had new neighbours with a boy called Spencer and a girl called Tracey. 'Ooh, he's one of my favourite actors', said DM. Blank looks... they'd never heard of him.

Anyhow... don't think it's a great name for a girl, but it's made me want to watch some old films.

Letsgetreadytorumba · 27/10/2018 01:07

Iona isn’t an unusual name at all. I know at least 3...

Dotty1970 · 27/10/2018 01:25

OMG No!
For a boy Spencer is a horrible name and for a girl it's just awful and will cause her unnecessary upset for sure, why would you want to do that....just to get that 'different and unusual' name? It isn't fair to her.

Dawsonforehead · 27/10/2018 01:40

Sorry I don't think it suits a girl

Birdie69 · 27/10/2018 01:51

Nope. It's a surname or a boy's christian name. For a girl it sounds all wrong to me.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 27/10/2018 01:55

Absolutely fucking ridiculous, are you for real?

Sungura · 27/10/2018 02:17

I strongly prefer it as a boy's name. Of course you can do as you like. This is your child. You see how people feel here for most part, though, and it's not good.

Galvantula · 27/10/2018 02:27

Just no.

Belindabauer · 27/10/2018 09:39

Awful for a boy let alone a girl.

CupMug · 27/10/2018 09:44

Sorry but it’s another no from me too. I don’t like the name for either a boy or a girl.

ireallydontcare · 27/10/2018 09:47

Thank god I'm not alone! I work with a girl who called her DD that because of PLL. It's a boy's name and it's pretentious. The colleague has form for thinking she's better than she is though.

Whipsmart · 27/10/2018 10:01

My friend's daughter is called Spencer... I was a bit about it when I heard the name but I didn't realise the general hatred for it was so strong! And I've only just twigged about Pretty little liars - my friend is a big fan

Slappinthebass · 27/10/2018 11:19

I always thought it was unisex.

pixieloux · 27/10/2018 12:04

I honestly hate it on a girl but I don’t like boy names on girls. It would work in America where it’s a very in thing to do but I think she’d always be ‘girl Spencer” here and judging by the comments most people will just think you’re a fan of Pretty Little Liars (I’ve never watched it so didn’t make the connection personally)

oneofthose · 27/10/2018 12:10

I know a little girl called Spencer and it is lovely and unusual
