Prefer Abraham

bellaste · 26/10/2018 11:33

Not keen, sorry.

ThanksItHasPockets · 26/10/2018 11:35

I also prefer Abraham. I like Bram as a nn though.

ElderApta · 26/10/2018 11:48

Our boy is 5 days old and we still can't think of anything to do him justice :( he's so perfect but feels like he will be nameless forever!

Congratulations! Do you like Old Testament names in general?

crunchtime · 26/10/2018 11:54

what sort of feel do you want the name to have?
What does he look like?

any particular likes/dislikes?

ElderApta · 26/10/2018 11:55

@ThanksItHasPockets we like all sorts. Not Old Testament names specifically but it does have some fabulous ones. We just want something powerful. A strong name for our strong little dude.

@crunchtime we want something strong. We don't want anything top 100. Has to be a little bit unique or uncommon but not ridiculous. It's so hard. I feel like I've exhausted every resource...

Adam? That's got the old testament thing going on, is a very strong name and is a lovely name in general?

Leo?
max?

oscar-means 'divine strength'

ThanksItHasPockets · 26/10/2018 12:00

Josiah?

AtticaRose · 26/10/2018 12:00

Congratulations!

I think Abram is a great name. Definitely has that strong vibe. Easy to spell/say. I also think variants of biblical names can be nicely international, and fit in everywhere.

If you like it, go for it! (You must be exhausted - and going round and round on names is so stressful.)

crunchtime · 26/10/2018 12:00

sorry i posted before you did

I really wouldn't worry about the top 100 thing

I have worked with primary childrn for 10 years and you really don't get many of the same repeated in a school setting if that's what's worrying you. And remember your child is unique because of their personality, not their name.

crunchtime · 26/10/2018 12:04

Amos? means strong

nathan

reuben? I love this one!

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 26/10/2018 12:08

I prefer Amos. But Abram is cool! I do like Bram as a nn.

CheeseTheDay · 26/10/2018 12:50

I absolutely love Abram. I love Abraham too, and indeed one of my sons has the Hebrew form (Avraham) as a middle name, because of the importance of Avraham in Judaism. However, if was going to use either as a first name, it would be Avram/Abram, as I think it's more 'wearable'.

SuperstarDJ · 26/10/2018 18:58

I prefer Abraham. Which is what the majority of people will assume you said upon first introductions of Abram. Correcting people might get a bit tedious after a while.

I like the name Joah. Have only ever met one and much better than Jonah imo.

I also like Amos & Saul.

FartnissEverbeans · 26/10/2018 19:05

I love Bram and I actually know one. I thought about it for my son, but apparently it means ‘fart’ in Scottish Gaelic?!

Sophronia · 27/10/2018 04:31

I like Abram, but how about Abel?

motherlondon · 27/10/2018 05:15

Rex
Xavier

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 27/10/2018 05:17

I would assume you were Jewish with a name like that. Not that that matters at all.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 27/10/2018 05:44

I like Abram, but I think when I (and many others) heard it I would assume you/he said Abraham. I agree with you though, lots of lovely Old Testament/Hebrew names. We went with Caleb

FuckingHateRain · 27/10/2018 07:09

No sorry

The list above from pp has lots of ideas but Abram, Bram, Brann just no

HeronLanyon · 27/10/2018 07:11

I know ‘Abrams’ as a surname. I like Abram as a first name. Asa is a great old name. I like a lot suggested above. Abram to me is very religion-rooted-linked name. If you are atheist that might be something to think about ?
