My son will be born in February and my surname begins with an R. I like Rufus, Hector and Benedict for different reasons. What do you think?

Great picks! Rufus and Hector were on my boy list. I love alliteration so go with Rufus.

Polkasq · 22/10/2018 08:30

I like Rufus best, then Benedict.

Frosty66611 · 22/10/2018 08:34

Benedict as it can be shortened to Ben which I love.
Really don’t like Hector and I always personally think of Rufus as a dog’s name as my grandparent’s one was called that and so was my best friend’s

GeorgieWish · 22/10/2018 16:43

@n0ne what did you go for in the end?

@GeorgieWish we had a girl

n0ne · 22/10/2018 17:02

That sounds really curt without the smiley!

JosellaPlayton · 22/10/2018 17:04

Hector or Benedict. I slightly prefer Benedict but they’re both great. Rufus sounds like a dog’s name and I don’t like it for a human.

@n0ne 😂😂😂😂

Rufus!

Please not Hector. He ended his days dragged behind a chariot until his face fell off!

Icklepup · 22/10/2018 19:59

Rufus :)

DC2018 · 22/10/2018 22:20

I love Benedict x

Sophronia · 23/10/2018 21:41

Hector

SoftSheen · 23/10/2018 21:42

Benedict!

MsJolly · 23/10/2018 21:43

Benedict for sure

RedDwarves · 23/10/2018 21:48

Benedict.

Rupert instead of Rufus would be my ultimate preference, though.

SlurplePurple · 23/10/2018 21:55

My 1yo ds is benedict I love his name so I vote that :)

itssquidstella · 23/10/2018 22:17

Hector or Rufus. Benedict will become Ben, and Ben is the most boring name in the world apart from Joseph.

Dljlr · 23/10/2018 22:19

Rufus by a mile, I love it and I have one. Gets shortened to Roo too which is pretty cool

Kintan · 23/10/2018 22:22

There was a Benedict at my school and he was nicknamed ‘bent-dick’ so I associate that with the name sadly. Really like Rufus - especially with an R surname :)

LeeMiller · 24/10/2018 12:05

Benedict, the Rufus.

I don't like Hector because of the meaning of the verb 'to hector' - bully, browbeat, intimidate etc. There are much nicer names from Greek mythology.

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 24/10/2018 12:14

Hector and Rufus are great!

I dislike Benedict.

TatianaLarina · 24/10/2018 12:18

In ancient Greek Hector means to restrain.

TatianaLarina · 24/10/2018 12:19

Or rather the word it derives from does.

finallychangedmyusername · 24/10/2018 13:34

Rufus.

OatsBeansBarley · 24/10/2018 15:15

Hector was a wonderful hero though despite the tragic end and the meaning of the verb.

I like Rufus but it was vetoed by dh on the grounds of "dog name." I still think it's a great name, which is good going 20 years later.
