One syllable names which aren't traditionally 'white British' please?

I wasn't sure whether to post this in creative writing or here, but I'd love some suggestions of fairly common names from other cultures, that are used for children living here. I'm writing a collection of poems for children, and where names are mentioned, I want to make sure they're not all Jack and Sophie, if that makes sense. One syllable is most useful ideally, but two at a push.

Boys' and girls' names please, any background really, but probably mainly Indian/Arabic/Afro-Carribean/Eastern European? I'm stuck, and don't necessarily want to use my children's friends names!

Off the top of my head..
Raj, Dev, Jay (Indian)
Noor, Zain (Arabic)
Seun (Nigerian)
Przem (Polish, think it's short for a longer name)

CherryValance · 18/10/2018 22:19

Thank you!

Are Suen and Przem male or female? Noor, Jay and Zain probably most useful if they need to rhyme too

The Seun I know is female, but googling it brings up a man, so maybe unisex? Przem is definitely male.

I believe Zain is also unisex, btw

I've taught a few African students with names like

Blessing, Queen, Princess, Brilliant and also biblical names, but ones that are less common among white British such as Lazarus.

My dad goes to an RC church where about 1/3 of the congregation are Pakistani with names like Crystal, Pearl and Nigel.

Actually Crystal is quite a multicultural name, I taught a class with two who were known as Black Crystal and white Crystal.
