Hit me with Irish boy names

Baby due shortly and I was convinced it was a girl, now I'm not so sure so starting to panic I have no boys names picked.

Shout out your Irish boy names to me - I've given dh a week to put a list of 10 together otherwise I get to choose (as he seems to think he has all the time in the world)

My actual fav name is not Irish, it is James but dh doesn't like it.

I'm also open to girl names if you want to throw a few in

Is it Connal conal or Conall? Either way I like it!

zucchinieggplant · 17/10/2018 19:31

I love Tadhg

confuddeledconfuddel · 17/10/2018 22:10

@TamiTayorismyparentingguru how do you pronounce Caolaidhe

@Changedmynametoolikeyou I never knew mossy was a nickname for Tomas - I know a Fr Mossy and thought he was Maurice (just assumed)

So on my list is
Ruairi
Lorcan
Cathair

I like but can't use Oisin, Cian, Sé, Caolan, Cormac, Seamus (family member who is an ass called that) (there were a few others mentioned that I've had to rule out but can't remember them and I'm on my phone so can't look back.

Potentials for my list
Cathal
Riordan

Cathair = chair. It has an older meaning, yes, but everyone understands it as chair. If he's going to be learning Irish (or spending time around Irish people) avoid it like the plague. And Maol means bald.

Lorcan is nice, so is Cathal. Rian?

RavenWings · 17/10/2018 22:45

Grr, forgot to add in that the cathair spelling is city. Cathaoir is chair. Neither are good options.

villainousbroodmare · 17/10/2018 22:48

Iarla is lovely. And Seán is a classic.

RLOU30 · 17/10/2018 22:48

Rowan? I’ve called my son Roan (sounds the same just dropped the W)

confuddeledconfuddel · 17/10/2018 22:58

@RavenWings I was just waiting to see who would be first to comment on Cathair - it's a very very common name in Ulster. I realise not so in the rest of the country.

I can anglicise it for you if that would help Cahir

To really rattle you I have a Caoimhe pronounced Keeva

confuddeledconfuddel · 17/10/2018 23:03

Hmmm none of my smiley faces came up in my post. My message was in a light hearted manner as I realise people seem to have massive issues with Cathair/cathaoir/cahir in the rest of the country. Lucky for me in Ulster it's a common enough name

Putinka · 17/10/2018 23:07

Mannix?

I'd never heard the name until it appeared in a book I read this week.

Johnb0y · 17/10/2018 23:16

"how do you pronounce Caolaidhe" ... with great difficulty I'd imagine!

Ophelialovescats · 17/10/2018 23:21

Eoin
Oran
