Can’t decide whether I find it too frilly or very beautiful.

I love it, it's beautiful! Always makes me think of the film Nanny McPhee.
I was surprised it wasn't more popular last year. It would probably get shortened to Evie though if that bothers you. I think Evan is quite a spunky nn for a girl (like Evan Rachel Wood).

DramaAlpaca · 14/10/2018 20:51

I'm in the very beautiful camp. It's long, but it's not frilly IMO.

Pompom42 · 14/10/2018 20:52

It's my daughters middle name. I did love it as a first name too. But I'd already chosen a first name

Viviviolet · 14/10/2018 21:05

wildewillow I can’t lie, the sound of it from Colin Firth’s mouth is what made me remember the name

It’s lovely

IrishMamaMia · 14/10/2018 21:26

Met one today and couldn't stop thinking how cool a name it is :)

Cottonia · 14/10/2018 21:26

Little bit clunky in my opinion. And it will inevitably be shortened to Evie, which every other little girl seems to be called at the moment.

LesLavandes · 14/10/2018 21:29

It's my daughter's middle name. I love it

Viviviolet · 14/10/2018 21:50

The more I think about it, the prettier it gets but with my four year old being called Margot (which I think is a strong name) don’t want to give dd2 a ‘weak’ sounding one

It is beautiful. But a bit much. A wonderful middle name, rather than a first name.

I’d be arsed off if I had an Evangeline who ended up just being another Evie in her class.

notangelinajolie · 14/10/2018 22:18

I think it is beautiful and wish I'd thought of it when I was having my babies. I think if I'd been able to have more children I'd have been very tempted to have another just so that I could use it.

Notveryadventurousname · 14/10/2018 22:21

I know one but she is always known as Evie, and yes, one of about six in her year group.

MadameJosephine · 14/10/2018 22:24

It’s gorgeous

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 14/10/2018 22:28

It’s very gorgeous; reminds me of 20s glamour - very House of Elliott!

But because Evies are ten a penny now and Evangeline is rather a mouthful I’d suggest it as a middle name instead.

I like Margot and Juliet as a combo, maybe Margot and Vivienne??

Fevertree · 14/10/2018 22:30

I love Evangeline and its on my list for this baby (don't know if its a boy or a girl but due in 2 weeks) I am a bit put off by the nn evie though which as previous posters have pointed out are all over the place...

RavenWings · 14/10/2018 22:31

I love the sound of it, but I think it will get shortened to Eva or Evie, and they are overdone. That would put me off using it.

creamcheeseandlox · 14/10/2018 22:39

Girl in my dd class called Evangeline. It's not shortened no one has ever called her anything but the full name.

Jitters22 · 14/10/2018 22:41

I’ve always loved it x

KERALA1 · 14/10/2018 23:02

I would worry she would join the hordes of eve/Evie's which every other girl is called now

mumofnat · 14/10/2018 23:24

Loveeee it, so beautiful xx

AtticaRose · 15/10/2018 07:30

I really hate it (sorry!). The "vange" sound in the middle always sounds a bit horrible to me. Plus, very frilly. Feels like a tough name to wear into adulthood.

But I know lots of people love it!

Eleanor90 · 15/10/2018 07:37

Beautiful and definitely not weak!

barnet · 15/10/2018 07:49

Its beautiful.
But I also second PP’s suggestion of Margot and Vivienne, both strong and balance each other perfectly

Normandy144 · 15/10/2018 07:53

It's lovely but you need to be sure you can live with Evie too (or make sure people know she's Evangeline and not Evie). My cousin is Evangeline and has been Evie pretty much from birth.

Decemberly · 15/10/2018 08:16

I love it! It is on my shortlist for this (our first) baby. I have loved it for a long time (pre-baby, probably House of Eliott related) and it was the front runner but I’ve had a wobble on it because of the dreaded Evie shortening. If we do go for it, Evan would be our preferred nickname. I love the meaning - ‘bringer of good news’.
