Opinions on the name Edie?

Love it

adoggymama · 07/10/2018 01:02

So cute! I really like it :)

JemmimaJ · 07/10/2018 01:06

For a girl?

kettleonplease · 07/10/2018 02:11

Yep for a girl. Not sure it could ever be a boys name? Maybe Eddie for a boy but that is pronounced differently

I wouldn't choose it personally as Ive known an Edie and they have been variously called needy Edie, weedy edie, greedy edie, seedy edie...maybe kids are kinder these days but I wouldn't take this risk myself.

GoldenMcOldie · 07/10/2018 02:27

What about Edith non Edi?

HollyBen · 07/10/2018 03:06

I know a couple of Edie's. 1 is Edith known as Edie, the other is Edie. I really like it. Prefer just Edie. I don't really get the point of giving a name in order of use a different one

IdaBWells · 07/10/2018 03:19

Kiera Knightley’s baby girl is Edie

Shadow1234 · 07/10/2018 03:25

I love it.

kettleonplease · 07/10/2018 03:27

I don't really like Edith, and you're right it does seem a bit strange to give a name knowing you'll only ever use the nickname!

Love!

Crystalblue13 · 07/10/2018 05:30

Love it!

Peachbubble · 07/10/2018 07:41

I like it

Sunflower321 · 07/10/2018 07:42

Looks like a boys name. I know a couple of Edwards who go by Ed or Edie.

NewtScamandersNaughtyNiffler · 07/10/2018 07:44

I love it. It's my nieces name and always reminds me of Edie McCreedy from Balamory which my DC watched all the b bloody time a lot when they were small.

LusaCole · 07/10/2018 07:44

I like Edie and wouldn't think of it as a boy's name.

kettleonplease · 07/10/2018 08:04

Edwards that go by Edie would be Eddie, and is pronounced differently! Edie is Ee-d (rhyming with Evie), and Eddie is Ed-d

OP posts:
Cbeebiesrehab · 07/10/2018 08:34

I wouldn’t let the rhyming thing bother you, you can literally do that with most names!
I like Edie, I am a fan of a longer name on the BC, but that’s just me! May get misheard as Evie a lot but it’s not the end of the world!

VerbenaGirl · 07/10/2018 08:49

LOVE IT!

RoomWithALoon · 07/10/2018 09:33

I really like it! I think a couple of people on here haven't heard of it and are reading it as "Eddie". Which may be something they'd have to deal with, but I don't think it's that massively uncommon.

MaryBoBary · 07/10/2018 09:35

Love this name, super cute

Sunflower321 · 07/10/2018 09:46

I'd say Ed-ie

NorthernRunner · 07/10/2018 09:48

It’s a popular choice at the moment, but I can see why. I do prefer Edith though, but that may be because I know a beautiful Edith x

kettleonplease · 07/10/2018 10:06

@RoomWithALoon yeh I think you are right. That doesn't bother me entirely because like you said I think it is popular enough to generally be read correctly

LeeMiller · 07/10/2018 10:29

I love Edie. Personally I would have a longer name on the birth certificate as it feels a bit nicknames. I really like Edith and think it sounds quite elegant, but you could have Eden, Meredith, Edita...
