Which one of these names do you think is nicer for a girl?

Pippa.

Piper is a dog's name.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 04/10/2018 18:27

Pippa. Piper too trendy

Rebecca36 · 04/10/2018 18:31

Piper is nothing!
Pippa is a diminutive of Philippa. Quite like Philipps with Pippa as a shortened nickname. I cannot abide diminutives used as proper first names like Katie, Charlie, etc.

Ontopofthesunset · 04/10/2018 18:31

Pippa.

A piper is a person who plays a pipe, making me think of a young boy in an army regiment. Although there is also the Piper at the Gates of Dawn who is the god Pan (also male) in the Wind in the Willows and a famous album by Pink Floyd. "To pipe" is to speak in a high childish voice and a pipe is something you smoke or something your water runs down. So it's not one of my favourites.

scaredofthecity · 04/10/2018 18:34

Are you aware that pippa is European slang? It means different things in different countries but they're all derogatory. Its not a name I'd use for that reason.

partystress · 04/10/2018 18:35

I love Piper, it sounds much stronger than Pippa.

Ontopofthesunset · 04/10/2018 18:36

Well, Piper has the same problems too in some European countries, so that would rule out both names.

workworkworkworkworkk · 04/10/2018 18:36

Piper

motortroll · 04/10/2018 18:38

@Zampa lol my niece is Pippa (Philippa) and my granny's dog was called Pippa 😂 it's still a fab name though!

AdelaideK · 04/10/2018 18:39

Piper.

UserMillionBillion · 04/10/2018 18:40

Pippa, or even Pepa

I don't get Piper at all. It's a type of potato. Or an oil rig disaster. Or.......... somebody who plays a pipe [confused']

No comprendo.

InterstellarSleepingElla · 04/10/2018 18:40

Piper - reminds me of Piper from Charmed!

Pippa is pretty but doesn't sound as 'strong', maybe a little floaty.

babswindsor · 04/10/2018 18:41

Piper is nice.

Friolero · 04/10/2018 18:48

I prefer Piper

Shadow1234 · 04/10/2018 18:55

I know a horse called Piper and a dog named Pippa, so at the end of the day, its just personal preference as to which name you like for a child.

I prefer more trendy so would go with Piper, but if you prefer names that are more classic then choose pippa.

Once you put a diminutive name on a Birth Certificate, it becomes a stand alone name, because that is your childs name. (some people like that idea, others dont).

Think you will get mixed reactions on here, so probably wont help much.

Good luck

DramaAlpaca · 04/10/2018 19:31

Pippa, but with Philippa on the BC.

I don't like Piper, it doesn't look or sound like a real name to me.

Bluntness100 · 04/10/2018 19:34

Piper, I quite like it actually.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/10/2018 19:37

Piper. Pippa doesn't travel particularly well

Ackley79 · 04/10/2018 20:15

I love Philippa and prefer the nn Piper to Pippa, even though i know it’s a standalone name as well. Definitely prefer a longer name on the birth certificate, but that’s just personal preference.

PinkFlamingo888 · 04/10/2018 20:35

I love Piper!

Beautifulblue · 04/10/2018 20:50

Pippa. definitely don't have a Pippa so not at all biased Grin I didn't know about the slang terms until she was a few months old but I'm not bothered, still love it.

daisypond · 04/10/2018 21:12

Philippa with a nn of Pippa. Though I like Piper as well, actually.

LumosMaxima · 04/10/2018 21:16

I love both but Piper is definitely my favourite!

confusedmomm · 04/10/2018 21:23

Piper!

Starlight345 · 04/10/2018 21:24

I like Piper but reminds me of OITNB
