French names

DP is French, we'd like our children's first names to be French but easily pronounced/spelled in UK (live in UK). Have a few names in mind already, does anyone have any male/female suggestions? Smile

(Apologies in advance, accents not working properly on my phone so have left them out)

For boys Charles, Louis and Albert (could be known as Bertie) all seem to have worked well for French/English families I know.

For girls Charlotte, Elodie, Amelie and Clementine (usually known as Clemmie) have all been fine.

I love Delphine for a girl
Louis for boy and Raphael is lovely!

PrincessTwilightStoleMyToddler · 28/09/2018 16:34

personally I rather like Elodie and if I were picking a boy’s name that I wanted to work in both I might go for Louis. Olivier is nice but I suspect you will get a lot of people repeatedly assuming it’s Oliver which I think could be a bit irritating.

Cecile, Amelie, Francine

Pierre, Jacque, Tomas, Philippe

Isabelle? Francois?

I like all your choices. Chloé, Sophie and Gabrielle maybe less than the others as they are more common in the UK and so feel more international than French - you might consider that a good thing though.

I love
Capucine, Apolline, Amandine, Colette, Anouk, Juliette, Anaïs (probably not worth the pronunciation issues though).

Clément and Mathieu are also nice for boys, Patrick and Louis for more international options.

I like Delphine too. I've always loved Guillame for a boy.

Scatteredthoughtss · 28/09/2018 17:33

Olivier, Elodie, Eloïse and Sophie are quite common names in France, but very much an older generation, 30-40. Chloé is very, very common too, as is Gabrielle. You're probably ok with Raphaël.

I would suggest, as modern but not too run of the mill :
Ophélie, Maëlys, Ludivine, Manon, Lucille
and for boys:
Léo, Jules, Quentin, Amaury, Maxime.

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 28/09/2018 17:36

Same situation chez nous, op.

We have Maxime and Pascale.

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 28/09/2018 17:37

Leonie also is gorgeous.

Agustarella · 28/09/2018 17:45

I like Auguste or Emile for boys.

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 28/09/2018 17:46

Gaetan also for a boy - might confuse the brits tho.

Agustarella · 28/09/2018 17:46

Also Victor and Léon.

ConsiderHerWaysAndOthers · 28/09/2018 17:48

On our list we had:

Louis, Hugo, Philippe, Gabriel, Max (could be short for Maxence or Maxime), Ludovic, Arthur (not exactly French but I know a few small French ones), Raphael

Eloise, Madeleine, Margot, Juliette, Celine, Anais, Adele, Violet, Valentine

inthekitchensink · 28/09/2018 17:48

Camille, Amelie, Anouk, Eloise, Elodie and Delphine were all on my list

I have a close family member with this name. The Brits butcher it, I’d avoid unless you want your DS to be known as Gay-Ton.

BlancheM · 28/09/2018 17:58

Anything other than Élodie for a girl, every other woman my age is called that
For boys I like Seb, Florian, Nathan and Victor.

TatianaLarina · 28/09/2018 19:57

Manon, Capucine, Mirabeau, Isabeau, Inès, Maëlys, Anaïs, Sigolène, Célestine.

Really like Olivier and Raphaël. Also Thibault.

Peachbubble · 28/09/2018 20:06

I like Elodie, Chloe and Sophie from your list.

How about Carolina, Margaux, Clementine, Ines or Clara.

Henri, Hugo, Louis, Leo or Raphael?

Peachbubble · 28/09/2018 20:08

Ooops, just seen you already had Raphael on your list...

MountainPony · 28/09/2018 20:12

Celine
Hugo

frenchfancy · 28/09/2018 20:13

I know 101 girls called Manon. Cecile and Celine are both ladies in their 40s

PinkFlamingo888 · 28/09/2018 20:19

Noellie is my favourite French girl name. Not sure how it would work in English when read but should be easy after being told. I also know French children called Opal, Quentin, Clemence, Leopold, Emmeline, Gaspard, Victor, Anselme. Sorry muddled genders there but hopefully you’ll work them out!

TatianaLarina · 28/09/2018 20:32

OP lives in the U.K. Manon is not common here.
