I really like biblical baby names, however I feel like there are lots of good boy baby names and less variety of girls. If you had to pick a biblical baby name what would your top boy and girl choices be?

I do like Miriam, but we live in N.Ireland and there are LOTS of Marys and I suspect Miriam would be shortened to Mary.

never heard Miriam shortened to Mary Confused

usually to Mim.
But I do know one who spells it Maryam, that i would imagine might get shortened to Mary!

I love Miriam because it means rebellion, and she is described as one of Israel's leaders, and she then leads all the people in singing.

I also love Deborah, just because she is a strong leader in the Bible, so great role model. Warrior Queen. Just don't like Debbie (very 1970s to me) so I would need to find an alternative nn

I love the Dutch pronunciation (my dh is Dutch) which stresses the middle syllable.

I like Abigail too, another good name

If you are going for a Biblical name do check the context - eg Sapphira is beautiful but the Biblical Sapphira is not someone you would want to name your child after!

I love Jemima and Jedidah (beloved of the Lord).

Bathsheba and Hepsibah. Not sure I'd use them though. For boys I like the classic David and Matthew.

I know a Keturah who goes by Kate as a short form.

yellowplumpreserves · 27/09/2018 13:54

Some our children’s Biblical middle names are: Rachel, Naomi, Mary, Lydia and Ruth (I don’t have five, they each have two middle names).

yellowplumpreserves · 27/09/2018 13:55

Julia is also (greetings list at the end of Romans).
